Keyboard problem

Many of the functions on my keyboard do not work. I am able to type, delete, backspace and move up and down pages but nothing else works. What is the problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

What type of keyboard? (wired/wireless)

Have you updated your drivers?

If wireless, have you tried the reset function?

Are the batteries running low?

As you can see .. we're going to need more info.

need more info, did it start suddenly had it been fine? what version of windows are you using, did you make and changes to anything or add anything.
Have you rebooted the pc? have you tried unplugging the keyboard and replugging, assuming it is a plug in and not wireless??
You possibly may have hit some key combination that is causing it.

I've replaced keyboards on a couple of laptops. It's actually a lot easier than you'd think. You need to remove a few screws and open it almost flat (so the screen is pointing straight up), then disconnect a thin ribbon connector, put the new keyboard in and reattach the screws (specific steps may vary a little bit, but it will be pretty similar). I've always used the original equipment. On a personal laptop where I did this, I bought a dead laptop of the same model on ebay and used it for parts. On a work laptop, it was on an extended warranty and they sent the keyboard by UPS. In my case, though, the keyboards were not working correctly. I think I'd be inclined to let the faded letters stay or use the paper/tape approach.

Ivamae I see you live up here in the Great White North, have you unintentionally swapped to French? Click Start click Control panel click Clock, Language and Region click Region and Language and have a looksee there. You might have a keyboard icon down near the clock, if so you could click there and see what pops up.

Vol. not loud enough on new monitor

I took the new monitor back to Best Buy. The "geek" girl hooked it up to a computer. She couldn't get any sound to come out so she told me it doesn't have integrated speakers. I told her that I had used a wire with greenish/yellow ends going from the monitor to the computer. So she found one, plugged it in and turned on some music. I couldn't hear it over the noise of the store. She had me lean way in over the counter, and said "Can't you hear it?" I said "Yes, barely, but shouldn't it be louder than that?" She told me that she didn't think there was anything wrong with it, she just thought it was made to not be very loud. They let me exchange it for another like it and it's the same, half the volume or less of my older one. I guess HP wasn't selling enough external speakers so they thought by reducing the volume on the cheap monitors they'd sell some.

I don't have a tablet or any such new gizmos but I'll try a drag and drop from my computer here and see what happens It seemed to work OK.

Could you be more specific on what functions do not respond?

You might want to try another keyboard too.

Not knowing exactly what the concern is,

Make sure the Scroll Lock is off, and the Numbers Lock is on.

If these two items are OK, then heed the above questions regarding information.

I have Windows XP.
