laynemcd24, can you share what size and type of tile you are using on the shower floor? We are planning to do large porcelain tile on the shower floor with a linear drain, just like you. I know it's always recommended to use smaller tiles on the shower floor for more grout lines and traction (and for sloping toward the drain), and I know we'll need to find a tile with an appropriate DCOF so that it's not slippery.

For a skilled setter it is not that much more difficult or time consuming in the scheme of things perhaps ads 2 hours or so.. And to clear up more misinformation it doesnt always require a custom pan or A different screeding plan in advance. This shower pan was prepped for mosaic tile. In the 9th hour we decided to upgrade this clients pan floor and all it took was some medium bed mortar and yes used at proper alotted max thickness. Lastly to answer and concur jennifers points it is normal all over the world and the US Get the tile and design you want and hire the qualified installer that can make it happen without reservation or worry.

We just built a shower with almost those exact dimensions, and I want to strongly encourage you to consider a 6" shower curb entry for water control. We, too, wanted to lower the threshold as is so popular with modern showers, but what happened to us and can happen in any situation, is that the floor itself that is to be tiled may need some leveling work before the slope can even be considered. This can quickly eat away at your necessary lippage to keep water out. At least be prepared going into the build that this could be a possibility and that you may need to adjust mid-construction. Even following the proper dimensions for slope, it's a long way for that water to drain, so kicking up the slope a little wouldn't hurt. It doesn't look weird at all. It's totally necessary to get that slope in there so the water won't be sitting over the long surface. Also, at only 80", I think you're going to need some sort of curtain or door to keep water from spraying out the end where your entry is. There are specifications on that somewhere that I've bookmarked, so let me know if you haven't planned a door or curtain into your design, and I'll look it up and link it for you so you can confirm if needed. We used a unique metal coil shower curtain for ours and love it, from Cascade Coil. For our build, we used the Schulter pre-formed shower drain pain and curb forms. The shower drain pain was the longest commercially available, then our tile setters had to build out extra slope to get the full length. If you haven't considered Schluter, please look into it. It's an excellent waterproofing system, and putting this much into a shower renovation, you'll want to be sure it won't ever need to be repaired due to leakage. I believe they have systems to accommodate the linear drains as well. Ours was a re-design of an existing shower into a post-tensioned slab foundation, so we couldn't upgrade to the linear drain but would have if our foundation had allowed for it easily. Also, please look into some version of pre-sealed grout like Mapei. Our tile setters used a standard non-sealed grout, and with that much tile, cleaning is already a problem. We're needing to apply some sort of sealant going forward to help our grout situation. It's a lot of tile to keep clean, but you'll enjoy the space!

Who's installing? I installed my own porcelain 12x24 and it was very difficult for me. I have the dreaded lipage. If you are going to have a pro install, make sure they know what they are in for. I had lots of help from some old GW posters. Couldn't have done it without their help. But I would never recommend laying anything larger than 12x12 for novice tilers, after my experience. Now as far as color. I just say what ever you like. Things tend to be very light these days. But the picture you show is beautiful. I couldn't get the link to open so I don't know the material, thinking it might be marble due to your comment about concrete. If it is marble, it does absorb water. and many people have had nightmares with shower pans, tiled with marble. But those issues seem to be a poorly built base. Then the water doesn't drain under the tiles, to the drain, and causes constant wet look, and staining, especially light marble. I would recommend porcelain for all parts of the shower. I also would recommend to have a solid surface base that is pre slopped if you are DIYing it. I used a 3x5' Kohler cast iron base and have been very happy with it. I don't have to worry about the function of the drainage. I went with the cast iron, cause I was DIYing my shower and I didn't want to tackle the shower base slope construction. If I had a fail, it would be on me and I'd have to take it out.
