Karen, are you cutting the tops off the pumpkins to put the floral arrangement in them? Or do they have tops that come off??

We ran out tonite to get a few things I wanted for my Thanksgiving table & there is almost nothing left in the stores for fall.

I went to JoAnn Fabrics & they had hardly anything left, then Hobby Lobby & same thing. I didn't get to Michaels, maybe tomorrow, but my back is bad, left leg hurting all the way down, so I had DH drive me around tonite.

Some lady in Wallymart said, gee they jumped from Halloween, skipped right over fall & jumped to Christmas, she must have been looking for things for her Thanksgiving too!

That's a lovely pheasant - I love cast iron as I know I can't break it! Very nice arrangement - are you making another to keep this time? ;-) I've never seen a garden nutcracker before but he's a cutie! TFS

Karen, do not under any circumstances go to Marshal's! I'm warning you--do NOT go! Why???? They had a whole section of three shelves full of all sizes of nutcrackers!

Your pheasant is really pretty, how do you plan to display him? Another nice pumpkin floral arrangement too, I really like the shape of the pumpkins you are using too.

Slinkey, I can't wait to see if you have the same Nutcracker. LOL. And no, I don't have any thing left over to make me another pumpkin floral. I had just bought the two. But I have my orange one I made last year (and my daughter got one too.) Plus in Sept I made the white pumpkin floral with two stacked. So its ok I let her have this one. Tho I sure did like those brownish rose flowers and subdued colors. I might get more of them since they are 70% off, if they still have them.

Yacht, I am NOT collecting pheasants. I wanted just ONE for my Fall decor. Even tho he's big and colorful, Mr Oblivious probably won't even notice him on the mantle when I get him. LOL.
Yes, I take a little steak knife and cut the stem off the pumpkins. Leaves a hole just the right size to stick a handful of florals in. I did put sand in one pumpkin to weigh it down, so the orange Trouble cat wouldn't knock it over since its in a place where he lays by it.
I'm sorry Fall stuff already gone from so many stores, and that your body doesn't like you shopping either. That really stinks, I know. I never checked Walmart this year.
I had to give up grocery shopping and my DH took it over for me. So no more Walmart browsing while getting food.
LOL. Saves money tho.

DARN YOU, LUVS! I've been trying for WEEKS to get to Marshalls, and have a gift certificate to spend there. I had hoped to go today in fact, but my body said No Way. How could you tell me something like this? LOL. Here's a tip for you NEXT time..

Karen your gardener nutcracker is just perfect for you! You can create a special family arrangement with the policeman, golfer, and the others. Now you need an Air Force one! (Is this what they mean by enabling?)

I meant to mention I probably know exactly how you feel about your back and leg. I've had a rheumatoid condition since the 70s. My poor ole bod sure ain't what it used to be. Come to think of it, it wasn't what it used to be then, either. (-:

When we go someplace, DH has to get one of the scooters. He gets in and takes off... there I am gimping along behind him. I no longer even try to keep up. He is nice and wants me to get in front and lead the way so we can go at my pace. I think all the married women know how *that* worked out. Sometimes I think I will just push him out of the scooter and say "my turn". lol

P.S. Lee, Thanks for giving me a little extra time. I just last night had the big Halloween dinner for the kids. The table had been set up for so long, I had to re-wash the dishes and get the dust off of everything before we could use the table!! Pics coming. (Hopefully, not of the dust!)

DS and DGSs ate their hearts out and then started in on their Halloween treats. I'm surprised DD didn't kill me. Hype-ing (sp) them up on sugar and sending them home at bedtime!! They wanted to spend the night, but I was saved by the fact it was a school night!

It was so crazy that as I was cleaning up and going over the menu in my mind so I could share all of the details with y'all that I got to thinking I hadn't cooked anything green to round out the 'health' part of the meal (yeah, right).

Then I remembered the dish of fresh kale (Eli's and my favorite) in the microwave that I had cooked earlier and sat in there to warm just at dinner time!! Plus, Eli had grown his own watermelons, totally by himself, (he is 6) and we had planned to do the great cutting ceremony last night.

Forgot it.

So, I appreciate giving the forgetful old lady a little extra grace period!!

Luvs, that's my favorite Smiley. I tend to open mouth and insert foot, so I should wear a button with him on it. I want to go shopping SOOOO bad to those stores that are a bit of drive (Marshalls, plus opposite direction a TJ Maxx and new Hobby Lobby beside it). But am having a time this past week just making it around the house and taking care of my Dad. My legs and back are REALLY starting to p__s me off. Excuse my blank, just tired of staying in a bad mood and doing nothing.

Great purchases. You could use the nutcracker in a nature gardening tablesetting theme. Use him as the centerpiece surrounded with some real tiny potted flowers (from gardening center-pansies would be cute now) put into a low dish on both sides of the nutcracker (or just surround him with the flowers in a glass pie dish), surround and stuff the plastic of the pots with some spagum moss (from craft store) flowing out enoungh to hide the dish and plastic pots. Intersperse a faux frog, bird, and or butterfly in the arrangement (again pulling out elements you already have in the nutcracker). Later you can plant the flowers in your garden, this way you get 2 uses for the flowers :) Your dishes could be a white dinner plate with a green salad, or soup bowl (to pull in the greens from the nutcracker). Choose a white or green napkin and find a novelty napkin ring that picks up the gardening theme.

That pheasant is fantastic! the other stuff is great too, but I've never seen anything like that pheasant in cast iron. It's so nicely painted too!
