IE Add-ons

I am using my 'old' computer (Compaq Presario);Vista & IE8 - I have both IE & Firefox and love FF mostly because of the add-ons which are not on IE and that's my question. How do I get a list of add-ons IE does have? I especially like Ghostery so I can block being tracked. I sometimes shop online at Coldwater Creek (still like the company) but after looking at an email they sent yesterday ~ every site I go on has side ads with CC and WORSE - pictures of the exact items I looked at! Damn, that's spooky - no wonder they call it Ghostery. Sometimes Ghostery will list as many as 12 or 13 or more 'tracking' 3rd party companies tracking my browsing - even private mail. I REALLY don't like this! Can I get this add-on for IE? Or how else do I stop them?

A basic Google search will show sites, both Microsoft and independent, offering IE add-ons. Be sure to review and validate any offerings as to their truth and compatibiliy.

If you can wait regarding this concern IE9 is just over the horizon as the Release Candidate is now being offered. Any add-ons you install most likely will be compatible with IE9, but their is no guarantee.

It's called targeted advertising and it does get a little spooky. Google's next plan is called "contextual discovery" and they're essentially going to try to guess what you want next.

If you're happy with Firefox, why bother at all with Internet Explorer?

I agree with the idea of making a swath of grass/path following your existing shapes, and gardening the rest of the space. I also agree with a brick or stone edging. Both those things worked very well for me. I don't have a sidewalk on the outer edge; my constraint is a deep ditch, which forms the outer limit of the garden space. I like the relatively straight line it makes as the edge. You don't have to do it all at once - start with Yard Advisor's corner bed. Get that set up and planted and keep thinking about the rest. Over the following year - or two or three..., you can gradually extend the corner bed towards the house bed, and along the sidewalk. If you do it gradually, it won't feel like such a big change/lot of work but rather like a natural evolution for the space. That's the way I did mine. Initially, I created a big bed in front and a narrow one along the driveway. A couple of years later, a small one was added behind the driveway border where the driveway curves plus another small bed was added in the N&E corner of the property. After a couple of years it was clear that all of those needed to be made more coherent and connected. So I measured a consistent distance from the edge of the main, large bed to eastablish the ribbon of grassy path that ties it all together. The ditch limited the outer ('moat') bed to a very narrow shape but the brick edge gives it more definition and it all works quite well I think. I use noscript, adblock and adblock filter set G, as well as IE tab (very, very rarely use it but it's handy when needed) and the FireFox Google toolbar. I have browster but sometimes it's annoying and I really have my doubts if it's any faster than loading a page. I never get flash ads, so there is no need for something like Remove it Permanently, although it's possible I have flash turned off. I also have Fasterfox. Is it? I have no idea. There are way, way too many add-ons for FireFox. I just use the bare minimum of extensions to make browsing less annoying.

I have two laptops, xp & vista. From time to time I get the same error. I've never been able to solve it. From web searches I have noticed lots of people get the same error and adobe keeps trying to fix it, yet hasnt.

Just to report, the horizon is upon us. IE 9 has been released. I have yet to see it on my Windows Update. It is available through various portals.

I was under the impression that IE9 in only for Windows 7, or is it also for Vista? I know XP cannot use it.

I had to use up some accumulated personal time so I am off today and of course the weather is bad; gloomy with rain. I took the time to download IE9.

I started with my fully updated IE8 and downloaded IE 9 using it. I found no mandatory use of using IE as the portal, it just makes sense to do so. A small installer was first installed followed by the upgrade. A reboot was required. There was an extended delay upon restart as the files were being configured. Upon activation it operated quickly without concern.

The ieSpell carried over along with Favorites. I also received a notification that a new Flash Player was available which I installed.

Be sure to get the appropriate IE 9 version for your system. On the tagged page click on the arrowhead to the right of the English offering and select the proper download.

Not trying to be all knowing, but I can see some instant questions.

The Menu bar (File/Edit/View....)does not show. Press Alt it will appear and leave when you take a browser action. If you want it permanent Alt>View>Toolbars>check Menu. The same with any other desired bars.

The addressbar is now called One Box. It does both urls and search. Type in the keywords and select on the appearing drop down menu the icon of the search engine you wish to use or the magnifying glass on the right end for the default engine. URL entry is the same as before with clicking on the arrow or Enter.

Site tabs are shown to the right of the One Box. By right clicking on a tab they can be moved to a seperate row.
