aol takeover

Someone here at home downloaded something with aol and now when I am in firefox and checking craigslist and click on an item to send mail it opens "aol 9.7 desktop".

How can I "undo" this little gift from aol?

My wife can't understand why I hate aol so much.

Get that "someone" to fess up and say what that "something" was that they downloaded. Are you using AOL for your dial-up internet service, or are you just using the AOL service via your broadband Internet provider? If its the latter, I would seriously consider getting rid of AOL. Its far more trouble than it is worth.

She is using aol via out broadband and has for yrs. I would LOVE to get rid of it BUT....
She said that they offered a aol update to 9.7 and she said OK do it. They did.
To me aol is almost like a virus. Once its in there its hell to get rid of.
Does anyone know how to stop aol desktop from popping up?

Phil--that is just WEIRD!! No, I haven't! How does your name come across when it enters a mailbox? I've checked emails in spam folders, delete files and those I delete for subject lines, etc.! Try responding with a subject line that says "Phil, here--coming at you"! I'll look for it, but then the spyware will have picked up on this already and I will be getting dozens of emails with some form of those words, but I'll be very industrious and scrutinize carefully! I emailed Richard/deshima last night and received a response this morning so I know it's working on our end!! Have you experienced others saying they've not received mail from you--from your server? Ken--you didn't recieve the email I sent you?? Good grief!!!

Fly, I borrowed that pic off of Tripadvisor. It's not one of ours. That castle was used in the Michelle Pheiffer movie "Ladyhawke". It's gorgeous and we've been privileged to dine there twice. Once was for a business anniversary dinner where the company's owner went all out for his employees. Shee, nope, it's not fish. That's prosciutto, the famous ham from Parma. don't like the merge much. I always found GW folks very helpful while Houzz is full of designers and builders modeling their wares (eye candy) and who often have no data on the items in the photos - you see lots of remarks such as "the owners bought it, I didn't keep the file, I don't recall but you could look at color X which is similar, we built that custom so contact us and we'll tell you how many thousands it will cost to have one just like it - - etc" or in most cases don't even bother to answer. I think if they post a photo to advertise themselves they should be required to list the appliances, main fixtures, paint color, and things like countertops that were used. That would reduce a lot of questions on Houzz and make the photos more useful. I depend on the knowledgeable people on GW who actually have experience with these things for reviews and opinions. A bunch of user names got changed in the merge which was not helpful. I'm attempting to use the forums again and I hope it improves. Chickadee I hope your health continues to improve. Welcome back!

Take a look at your Program and Features (Add/Remove) Folder in the Control Panel for anything associated with AOL. Also, check your FF for any AOL add-ons. I am certain things will be fine soon. However, this is another glaring episode of why user/owners should create guest accounts with limited privileges.

I went to firefox, tools, options, and applications.
Somehow aol desktop was selected as default for mailto.
Changed that out and now its back to normal.
I wish aol would cease to exist. They have been a thorn in my side for years.
