I have not given up. I have actually completely torn down the engine. Taking measurements to see how far off critical measurements are according to service manual. Before tearing down I checked but did not see a crack anywhere on the carb including pickup tubes. I was able to try a new carb and still no luck getting her to fire. I'm thinking it a spark issue, possibly at the wrong time. I have adjusted timing many times and nothing. Anyway at this point engine is completely torn down and I'm taking measurements. Also waiting for gaskets so I can re-assemble. Have not had time to check but maybe a gear is broken or something to that affect. Unfortunately I do not have a mag that I can switch out with this one to determine how well mine is creating spark. I'm pretty much convinced at this point that it has something to do with sparking at wrong time but as said before adjustments did nothing. I am also going through mid terms next week so I wont have a chance to proceed on the work for a few weeks but rest assured I'm not giving up. Unless parts prices prohibit repair on this old puppy it will run again. Thank you all for your replies and I will be back after finals mid terms next week. Brad

I work in the plumbing industry and sell garbage disposers. I've heard of this issue with multiple brands of disposers (non-batch feed type.) At first I thought it was due to a poor venting system after customer switched to a single bowl versus an old double bowl sink, since water is able to drain more rapidly with the 2nd drain venting air. I believe this could still be a factor, but have learned that most manufacturers have made their baffle more stiff and with a smaller center hole. The easy way to fix this problem is to simply cut the hole in the baffle a little larger or cut one section off the baffle. This will allow the air flow and water to drain. I do not recommend to remove the baffle completely because it does have a purpose: to help keep unwanted items from falling into the sink, to prevent debris flying out of the disposer while in use and also to deaden the sound.

I think you are fighting a losing battle! Years ago, we had a crazy cardinal that went to war with my old car. It was our third vehicle, so it didn't fit in the garage. It had chrome on the bottom of both doors, and the stupid bird spent all day, every day jumping from the ground to bang on the chrome strip. Once we got rid of the car, the cardinal went to war with the big bay window in the living room. All day long, he would sit on the porch railing and fly into the window. I tried everything I could think of, and nothing stopped it. I put a long mirror on the porch, hoping he would go after the mirror instead of the window. Nope. Big ugly stuffed animal in the window...he didn't care. I guess he finally either surrendered or died--probably the latter.

Hahaha! Nope, it was just a dumping ground for all of our stuff. And it is funny you mention that!! Because my husband was trying to get into the fridge and moved the chairs to those exact positions, and I thought it looked kind of good and would be functional in those aspects!! I will keep them there :) PS-- brown rug fits perfectly by front door, so that is where it will reside. @JustMe @groveraxle
