sometimes that kind of product will turn hard when cold, you might try some ice in a ziplock baggie on it and see if it gets hard again then when it is more firm you may be able to just pull it off in tact. That would be what I would try.

Maybe it you turn them upside down, the stuff will ooze itself out. Just a thought.

You guys are great for responding so quickly. Unfortunately, it has already hardened some - and it's thin and not breaking off intact. I did put the keyboard upside down - but I think it's already too hard to ooze out.

Interesting - two opposite possibilities. Since the parts that thinned out have hardened, it doesn't seem to want to move at all - almost like it's dried (although I thought this stuff wasn't supposed to dry up). Is it possible I should warm it to soften it - holding it upside down to see if will ooze out that way?

I called Apple support (I don't think I talked to someone very sophisticated). She thought we should just buy new ones ($100 for mouse and keyboard) - and thought it was possibly risky to see try to use it once we got off whatever we could remove. Is it going to fry the computer or something? I'm not sure that made sense although I'm concerned enough to not try it without some encouragement.

I am not sure if you can save this. My only idea is to put a heating pad on a table, place a piece of plastic wrap on the heating pad to protect it, set the pad on low heat, put the keyboard upside down on it, and see what happens.

I don't think it will fry the computer, but, to be safe, you don't want power to it unless you can get it completely cleaned up. I am assuming this is a desktop computer with a separate keyboard, not a laptop?

And, lastly, as a father of three girls -- all grown, and out of the house, I'm happy to say -- I'm curious about the explanation you got for why this happened!

I had to google this one I had never heard of this stuff, and of course did not see a single note on how to remove it.

I don't know what the nature of the goo is, but you may be better with gentler heat. I'm concerned a hair drier could cause it to skin over and harden. Last thought: Can you call the goo manufacturer on Monday to see if they have any ideas?

I googled this stuff too - and googled removing or cleaning it - no results except to purchase it. I think I'll have to call the company on Monday and see if they have any ideas. I like the idea of the heating pad - but I should probably find out what heat does to this.

I've always hated these slimy, gooey toys - they often stain - but this seems ridiculous. To have the thinned sections harden like that.

Kudzu- The explanation was that my daughter had a friend over yesterday and they were playing with the goo. They were in my husband's den - which my 10yo daughter seemed surprised to hear today that it was off limits to her and her friends. It's filled with guitars and recording equipment (it's always been off limits unless she's in there with her father). She and her friend were just in there - and decided to stop playing with the stuff - so they just put it down on the desk - on the keyboard and mouse - never occurred to them that was a problem.

We're trapped on our block in a historic storm of 26" at the bottom of a hill. The public schools are open tomorrow - yet neighborhoods remain snowed in. I am just so incredulous about that - that my daughter blithingly going in a den that's off limits - with goo - and innocently leaving it on the keyboard as though that's a sufficient place to leave it - seems equally baffling. Did the topsy-turvyness of the snow storm effect their thinking? perhaps. Her friends father decided to drive her here (down a 2 block hill of snow) in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. He walked her here and told he he'd gotten stuck at the top of the hill. we just learned he'd been stuck just around the corner - 3 houses away - too embarrassed to tell us he'd ventured down the hill. Unbeknownst to us our neighbors spent an hour helping him dig out.

If I find anything out about the goo, I'll post back.

Well, good luck. Don't be too hard on her...I've survived similar, irrational actions when my daughters were young. And she's, hopefully, learned a lesson or two.
