OOOOH PICTURES! Looking forward to seeing them!

Bright, I went to take my GD home tonight and noticed that a neighbor on the next street has his Christmas lights on already. Big lighted word Jesus on the roof, an inflatable merry go round, a big inflatable snowman, and a train! Couldn't believe he has them on already.

I'm back to more traditional colors again too. I like the red and gold--probably inspired by Judith's pretty pictures of her tree.

I glittered a few pinecones last year from a free bag a friend had given me. They turned out pretty good--but sometimes I have to remind myself that "less is more" so I don't get too carried away! LOL

I like just white lights on everything.....tree, garland, wreaths etc. I don't like the color of the lights to take away from the decorations. Just me.

I don't have a FP but have always used multi-colored lights on the FR tree but it I decorated the top of my entertainment center (usually put nutcrackers up there) I use white lights.

This year I am using white lights (pre-lit) on my tree as I bought one after Christmas last year.

I too prefer the white lights. Especially on garlands or wreaths. I am like Calicocat, think the decorations show better without distraction of colored ones.

I have used both--just depends on my mood that year! Last year, I gave up on the real trees that dry out too fast and become a fire hazard by Christmas Day and I bought a prelit tree with the white lights. I can still add some colored lights if and when I want to. Just go with whatever makes you feel good and follows the decor of your tree. ;o) Luvs

My question is about what color of lights do you all use,

After 14 years of using clear mini lights, I'm going back to colored lights.

Grew up with the colored C7s and used them even after childhood, wound up switching to the clear minis because I wasn't happy with the freshness of the real trees on the market and the minis don't generate as much heat. Went with the clear because I've never been a fan of the colored minis - they just lack sufficient oomph IMO.

Last year, in order to head off DH's annual carping over not having a real tree (I finally moved to faux trees in '97), I bought a relatively fresh little apartment tree at a local garden center. Figured we could put it in our bedroom since it's a little cooler up there than the rest of the house. Decided to give LEDs a try with this tree, so I purchased a stand of 60 LED C6s.

Turns out that I liked them a lot more than I thought I would, so when they returned to the stores this year I picked up enough to do the big tree.

and do you use the same on your tree that you use in your garland...if you use lights for the garland at all.

In previous homes, yes. Same lights for both. I like that continuity.

In this house, I didn't light the garland in previous years because there aren't any convenient electrical outlets and battery operated mini lights last a whopping 6 hours. Since I'm moving to LEDs this year, I just purchased 2 battery operated strands of colored stars for the garland on my mantle. I think it's going to work well, we'll see what happens when I finally decorate.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think I'm going to go with white lights on the mantel mainly because I'm going to put a nativity set in the center and I think the white lights will illuminate it better. The tree will remain colored lights.. at least for this year.
Flattie... I grew up with the big C7 and C9 lights as well as the bubble lights and so having colored lights brings back those memories.
I will take pictures soon. It's dark outside now when I get home (hate that!!) So probably not till this weekend. Just got to add some gold ornies and the lights and it 'probably' will be done!! LOL!!
