In my case, while I do have a printed copy of all my passwords (for email, message boards, Amazon, etc.) I also have two online copies, one of which is at my Hushmail account. Hushmail has full-time SSL for its webmail and it has the option of encrypting messages, so I simply encrypted my password list. (And in all those places I sometimes only have a password hint instead of the actual password.) I also use the LastPass extension with FF for actually logging in for many of them, so LP will also store a local copy. (LP is great because it's hard to remember -- or manually type each time -- 30+ character passwords.)

I'm sorry for not answering sooner; had to go away over the weekend. First, let me thank the two of you for introducing me to CCleaner. I downloaded it and expect to find it useful. I'll explain what I did in detail, just in case anyone else ever has the same problem. After getting back last night, I was successful in saving images in IE, but FireFox was still no good. Figuring it was something wrong with FF, I found a disturbing entry in FF's Tools>Error Console, calling a certain path in the computer "Not well-formed," but there was no explanation of how to deal with it. Removing FireFox via the Control Panel and reinstalling it did no good, nor did disabling all my add-ons and deleting temp files and cache. In the end, getting desperate, I backed up the Bookmarks and Scrapbook folders in my FF Profile, then I went to C:\Documents and Settings\[my user name]\Application Data\Mozilla, and deleted the entire Mozilla folder so as to force the new FF install to create a new one. This time, the new FF--though all my Bookmarks, Scrapbook add-on entries, and all the other add-ons I used to have were gone--worked right, and I was able to capture pictures again. I re-downloaded all the extension add-ons I had had before, and now everything is fine. At first, of course, my Bookmarks toolbar was gone, and I use it constantly, so that was a bit scary, but after moving the backup folder from the CD to my FF Profile folder, I got the toolbar back, and I was able to do the same thing for all my Scrapbook entries. If anyone else tries this, be sure to make a backup of your Bookmarks and Scrapbook (if you have that add-on) and also make a list of your add-ons and be sure you have a record of all the passwords FireFox has been remembering for you. it is moving fast I had posted the below on another thread firefox is on a very fast track in new versions blazing fast in fact. Just read a good article on it. So we can all get used to the new versions coming in very quickly. Firefox 7 is already in alpha and is expected to go to public beta on August 16 around which time Firefox 8 will go to alpha and Version 6 will be officially released. doing these quick updates really mess with the add-ons authors as they try to keep up with the speed of the changes in the new versions. So that leaves us with some of our fave add-ons not working while their authors scramble to keep up. I tend to stick with the version that all my add-ons work with till I am sure which ever new version also has working add ons then I move on.

Ravencajun, I had a similar problem to this. I use firefox too. Some time ago when I went to log into my bank, the username automatically came up and I was horrified. Somehow I managed to check not to show usernames and it seemed to work for a while but I now have to keep un-checking the tick boxes not to save on most of my links. I just tried to follow your instructions in this posting about clearing everything so went into firebox, 'tools', clear recent history but clear recent history wasn't highlighted so couldn't do it. Have I missed something out?
