Hello, Old Friends! My goodness, I can't believe how tardy this is. I found this thread some time ago and have been meaning to come back and comment. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! The emails in the hospital were a real pick-me-up. I think I still have them somewhere -- I must find and re-read them some time. Mistress Mary did indeed bring me a water hyacinth in the hospital, and was an amazing help to me during my convalescence, and not only then! She's a real peach. So anyway, yeah, it was an ordeal, not something I'd care to repeat, but I had excellent care and have recovered well, though it's been a long process. What actually happened was that the anticipated 2 surgical days turned into 3, because the neurosurgery part of Day 1 took much longer than anticipated. I was in hospital and rehab for a total of 6 weeks, with a few days home between the second and third operations. I didn't mean to abandon you all. At the time I was more active in a forum for people with spine issues like mine, for obvious reasons, and since then I've been absent because I'm too compulsive and when I'm active here I tend to get nothing else done. I'm currently experiencing one of ponding's worst waking nightmares (muskrats trashed my liner -- agh!), so this seemed as good a time as any to pop in and say my much-belated thank-you's. With a little luck maybe I'll learn to manage my time better and stick around! (Yes, this is really me. I couldn't remember my NorahS login, and I'd rather spell my name forward, anyway.)

Hi, I just went to www.live.com, clicked on 'hotmail' at the top, signed in (username @live.com -- must have that part ! and password). No problem. Not sure why it would be giving you trouble, ilmbg. Maybe try signing it with your username@live.com and username@hotmail.com just to see if there's a difference. Re: Gmail: I can't speak with any authority, however, I did recently try using Google Apps (which uses Gmail basically) to host email for my domain. I only used it for about a month and it lost three saved drafts I was working on ! Poof ! And once, when I had two saved drafts in the drafts folder, it lost one of them and duplicated the other (so I still had two drafts, just not the right ones). ...sigh... Well, some people love Gmail and some have issues with it. I guess I'm in the latter group. :-( Scott

Do I delete each account and then recreate it as IMAP? Will I lose the e-mails that have been saved under Local Folders? " One thing . . . my "Local folders" only contain Trash & Outbox. All my other Inboxes, etc. are within separate acct folders. I.E., each other acct. contains an Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc. - outside of "Local Folders." Anyway, there's a good chance that after you create an IMAP acct., the email that you have already downloaded using POP mail, and deleted from the server - won't show up in the IMAP Inbox. You'd have to import them back in. Just to be safe, I would export all your email first so that you have it as backup. Then make new accts as IMAP. See if everything looks correct, or if you need to import anything from the backup you just made. Finally, delete the POP accts. There is a really handy addon tool for TB : ImportExportTools https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/?src=search (That page looks complicated, but the use of the tool is not) The two different ways to export using that tool are - (and you get to the choices by right clicking on "Inbox" or any other folder) : 1) "Export folder" (w/ or w/o structure) This makes an Mbox file of everything that you export. It makes for just a few simple files that aggregate everything within the respective folders. So you will end up w/ one Inbox file, one Drafts file, etc. "Structure" just means you will keep the nested structure of the folders. The disadvantage is that you can't read them later w/o importing them back first (using ImportExportTools). 2) "Export all Messages" (and choose "eml" format here) This exports each email as a .eml file - and you can identify and read each one separately later after exporting. So if you export 500 emails, you'll get 500 .eml files. You can batch import them though using ImportExportTools. And you can read them just by clicking on them individually. There's no harm in exporting both ways if you like. Just create separate folders so you can keep it all straight. Play around with it a bit until you get the hang of it. For all the people recommending this way to do email or that - this debate has been going on for years. There are advantages and disadvantages to each - it really depends on your needs. I wouldn't say that any one of them is "unusual" as someone commented - what's unusual to one is likely normal to someone else. Personally I use them all, and all for different purposes - no one method seems to work for every purpose. I do use web based email for the most part though. Kath, glad you got your email back. About Firefox 10.0.2. Is that what you had, or did you update it along with Thunderbird? Wondering what caused your problem. I don't know whether to get the update or not. I'm sure Alex will do well on the test. OJ, I had that same problem with Gmail. I use Yahoo now. There is a definite Love-Hate relationship with our computers. Sue
