Cavimum - thank you! GooGone has done the trick. Sprayed it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrubbed clean with a soft brush and washed with dishwasher soap. The screen is as good as new! I also unscrewed the part that holds the screen in place from the dryer and vacuumed as much as I could from the inside using a crevice tool. There were gobs of lint clogging the opening to the vent. I cleaned it as much as I could but I really should take this dryer apart and clean it thoroughly one weekend. Maybe when I feel more ambitious.... As an aside, I have been reading the manual for the washer that I now have - Kenmore 70 series - and have to say that this manual is so much more informative and helpful than any manual for a front loader these days. It spells out the temperatures of the wash water and gives washing instructions and tips that actually make sense and work well. I don't know what happened to the manuals in recent years but this one actually makes sense.

I went through this too, but will never let Katie go. She is more like a friend than a cleaning lady. My kids adore her. She was a doctor in Albania and came to this country and had to start over doing anything she could to make money, including waitressing, babysitting, and cleaning houses. Cleaning is where she found she could make the most money, but in the meantime she put herself through nursing school, while working fulltime cleaning houses. She graduated last spring and now has a full time nursing job but still comes to help me when she can. Some weeks she can't come at all and every week the day changes, but she always comes in the afternoon so that on that day my son can take his nap in his bed instead of in the car (since I have to pick my daughter up at 3 ). She loves to cook like me. She brings me recipes and I share mine with her. She lets my son follow her around the house and gives him little jobs to do. When my daughter is around she does the same for her ... she'll have my daughter pick up her stuffed animals, etc or bring laundry downstairs. I like this, because I too worry about the kids thinking they don't have to pick up after themselves. Anyway, post renovation, I researched different products and am using different things now, but it was just a one time short conversation about the new stuff we are using (most particularly, this Bonax wood flooring cleaning system). She knows that the new house is my baby and I did tell her that I would take care of certain aspects (like cleaning the Butcherblock counter). She'll move on eventually. She is still cleaning because she is saving up money for her wedding next year. She is such an impressive young woman. So personable, hard working and caring. She is so there for me when I need her. She babysits in a pinch (or gets her sister to babysit for me). I hope I won't have to do without her until I am done with the classes I am taking because she is part of the infrastructure that is allowing this to happen for me. sorry so long winded but I feel so fortunate for the situation I have and wouldn't give it up.

Hi RavenCajun...I'll try your cleaning solution this Spring when it's time for the Big Clean! A water hose! LOL I have several, but the pump and outside well, which supplies all the water to the outside spigots, is still waiting for repair. I've been "on the list" all summer long and still no water. We have city water in the house, but all the outside spigots are fed from the (free) well water. I was so desperate for garden water this summer I ran a hose from my mudroom sink, out the back door (which had to stay open the entire time) around the house and to the gardens. I've forgone the fall screen cleaning and washed the sashes and frames with a bucket of hot water and a Mr. Clean/Vinegar and a sprinkle of TSP formula. I then rinse them with fresh hot water and finish with a Windex spritz. I'm left wondering if it's better to leave the screens off for the winter, or put them back up. If I do put them up I'll put them in the shower and give them a lick and a promise to hold them until Spring. I have a sneaky suspicion they'll pass the winter in a corner of the sun porch with a table in front of them for added bump protection.
