Just checked the KitchenAid Website.... looks like the pump and motor are only covered the first year. I'm still going to be making some phone calls....

I think you'll find the hardcopy manual that came with your machine will show clearly, that the wash and drain pumps are covered for 5 years.

If you go to the KitchenAid website, under customer service tab, type in your complete model number. That will pull up the same document.

As an authorized servicer for KitchenAid, we can't recall a time when a pump was not covered for 5 years.

Dixie.... you are exactly right!!! I found it in the manual, called KA and they confirmed it. They cover the part, but not the labor... which is still much better than purchasing a new dishwasher.

The repair company didn't really have a good answer for why the repairman didn't know this... at first they tried to act like we didn't tell them the age of the dishwasher.. which we did.... they said that most people tell them the DW is 2 years old, when in reality it is 6 yrs old, so they wait until they get back to the shop and check it... which he never did.

Oh well.... thanks to you, we will have a functioning DW for a much cheaper price!!

YEAH!!!! Thanks to dixiedarlin... I now have a fully functioning KA dishwasher with a newly installed pump!! And... it was still under warranty!

From what I have read, the Cascade Action Paks could not have been the culprit (first repair guy was a nimrod). The guy that came back out to replace the motor said that a bearing was gone....

Glad to hear everything worked out.

Whether or not the packs caused the problem, I'd suggest you switch to powder. Most manufacturers recommend powder - less potential for problems.
