Change font size in Thunderbird/email

Yes, I know about Control +/- to change page size for my browsers, but I am not having any success changing the size of the font when in the Compose mode of Thunderbird. I think the control (+/-) works when reading a message in TBird.. I'll look again on that.

I have tried Tools>Options>Compose> and changed font size form medium to large - the font is unchanged. I also tried extra-large. When in the compose mode the tool bar provides icons to enlarge and reduce font size but that is has to be done each time.

I'll also like to increase the font size for the display of my home page in Thunderbird - the list of files in folders. I don't see anything on that subject.

The Thunderbird help told me to do what I have tried. Or I misread it.

My old eyes just can't deal with small font on a notebook screen under 15", my current Toshiba is 13.3" or thereabouts. This was picked for travel reasons, but I now use that machine as my living room machine and so it isn't connected to a desktop display - as it he case when at my desk.

When in "Write" have you tried Tools>Options>Display>Formatting tab>select font of choice>OK? It just worked for me, and held after closing and reopening TB.

As to the Folder Pane font, Google using the keywords "Thunderbird folder pane font" (sans quotes). The appearing information will be there for your review. It is interesting.

DA... thanks. That works at least for one test. So dose Control +/- on the active text. Strange that "Compose" doesn't affect font size while Display does. Seem either or both could be the needed function - but when composing it is Display that determines the font size.

I'll Google for the pain size. Sorry to put you to that extra work/test but when I can't figure out some computer question my first thought is gardenweb/computer... not Google/Web.

Yeah, just when Dear Daughter was old enough to stop doing really weird things to our computer monitors, a couple of cats came to live with us. I don't know how they do the things they do, but it's really annoying to get my windows perfectly arranged on the screen to monitor various job streams to have the cat go bug hunting and log me out of my sessions. Figuring out how to change the font is just a matter of wandering the menu bar, and looking for options that look useful.

it would depend on which email client you are using and you did not mention what email you are using. I would look in settings and preferences if you have those options. In my hotmail I do not think there is a way to change the size of that list of to recipients. However there is a wonderful extension for the firefox browser that will increase the font sizes on the page with just one push of a button. If you use firefox you want to add the extensions called Text Size toolbar. It has been a lifesaver for me and my poor old eyes. I use it almost daily on some of the sites that have such small print. Once you have it you will not be able to live with out it. If you are interested in getting firefox browser if you do not have it and/or adding the text size toolbar I will be happy to help you with instructions just let me know.

jerry_nj, Oops, I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. I am no Thunderbird whiz, but my only other thought is that if you are using Thunderbird to gather mail from another ISP (is that the right word?) ie Hotmail, Gmail, Aol, etc, then can the setting be originating from there? For instance, I use Tbird to gather my mail from Gmail and it keeps my deleted/trashed unread mail bolded through the process. Just a thought. I hope someone can do a better job of answering this for you.

works for me. when it was snowing one day i wrote an email to a friend with a snow drift font by typing it, highliting it then changing like i said. i sent on it's way, then i remembered it doesn't show to the recipient if they don't have it on their PC. i use OE 6.
