Limewire. How to uninstall?

Ravencajun.......In reading the post from john_ny posted on the 8th, I saw that you instructed him that Limewire was not a good thing to have on your computer.........Well, this morn I was looking for another file and ran across Limewire, have no idea how it got on my computer, but there it is.

question...how to uninstall..it is not listed on the programs on the uninstall list. I right clicked on it and can delete it but not sure if that will get rid of it all.

Another example of how much a person can learn just from reading this forum.

I would suggest if the program does not show in the Add/Remove then go into Windows Explorer and remove it, then run Ccleaner to remove odd bits left behind.

I too had to get rid of the "free" Norton software that came with the most recent computer. I think that the success of Norton and other ultra-hyped software of similar nature is the result of "tests" done by PC Magazine, PC World and similar publications. I just searched PC Magazine's Reviews for "Norton" and it produced a lengthy set of values, comparing the magazine's ratings with those of readers. Is Limewire a torrent? I undestand that downloading and using somthhing that is copyrighted is considered illegal. I do have a problem understanding why it is wrong to share ebook files but it is OK for me to buy a hard cover or paperback book and then pass it around to endless friends. If this practice is so common, and illegal, why can't it be stopped? I have relatives who use a torrent to get all kinds of music and they feel perfectly safe. Are they taking a risk? Nancy

Ok I've tried to use revo uninstaller but at the first step it fails because it can't create a system restore point. what a bummer, it does look like an excellent program, I'm still happy to have it anyway! I looked at the integard website but this is not a problem mentioned in the FAQs, they assume that you can always uninstall it when you have te password. And that is the problem; I need to put in the password to uninstall the program, and i know the password, but this is when the message comes up to say there has been possible file corruption. SO therefore it doesn't accept the password and I can't uninstall it. I went into msconfig and I did untick the box so it doesn't start up anymore, also checked the control-alt-delete option and stopped it running. Still nothing has changed. I will try to ring the Free Toll Nr on Monday, but if anybody can come up with something else? Thank you so much for your help!! Oh and this is probably really bad but I don't know what a firewall is, or where to find it on our pc??

I really don't like a raw removal unless it is a last resort. If I was trying to resolve this concern I would try other approaches first.

I'm at work and I don't totally remember, but doesn't CCleaner have an Uninstall pointer feature in the Tools option? It may be listed there as all reports are not alike. If so, I would try that.

Also, I would try REVO Uninstaller. It's an application which will continue to come in handy as time goes by. After slowly using it on several systems on several different target applications I have become comfortable enough to recommend it.

If those suggestions failed then a raw uninstall would be necessary.

I also would suggest getting the free REVO uninstaller and use it, it has a lot of other great features you may be able to use also. It has really good tutorials on the site for how to use each part of the program.
What are you exactly seeing on your pc as limewire? is it in your program files? I am wondering if it is actually installed? Many others have also found it is not in add remove programs but I did find this quote at another forum
"Limeware comes with its on removal tool ,
I have found this to be the only way to remove it without getting in over your head.
It is located in the same file with the limeware program."

so you might try that first go to the limewire program file open it and see if it contains a removal tool.

Raven, you may be right about the file actually being installed. I did as you suggested and it took me to the Install page. I canceled and got out of there.

The file is in (C:) My Downleads. >LimeWire Winlnstaller 2,497 KB

Should I go ahead with the Revo Uninstaller?

Damcoy...I didn't get to the CCleaner, wasn't sure how to do that or look for it.

Owbis..I tried to find it in IE but wasn't able to. Perhaps like Ravencajun said, it isn't installed.

If that's all you have, just means it's been downloaded.
You'd have to click the installer for it to install.
Then it would be in add/remove for sure.

BTW, Limewire installs to C:\Program Files\LimeWire
and makes a folder in Documents called Limewire, inside that folder are Incomplete, Saved, and Store Purchased.

DA, your memory is good.
CCleaner DOES have an Uninstall feature in the Tools option.

Damcoy....I did find the uninstall list in CCleaner but Limewire was not listed......so guess you all are right, it's not installed.

I installed Revo but did not see it listed there either.

Does that mean I can go back to the c download file and just delete it?

Just curious why Limewire isn't good to have on the computer? I have it on my desktop and it never "seemed" to cause any problems. Thanks for your reply.

lotodig that is what I would do yes since it sounds like it was not installed if you do not find it anywhere else

Debi watch this news clip video then if you need more info do some google searches about the hazards of peer to peer sharing.
