Grateful: A Thanksgiving Table (pic)

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving, a time for gathering with friends and family and giving thanks.

There will be 7 of us this year: our family, plus two boyfriends. My dad, who lives in assisted living, won't be joining us, nor will my MIL, who finds the drive to be too much now.While we are very sad to not have our parents here we understand their circumstances, and feel blessed to still have them in our lives. Our gathering will be our family of five, and two boyfriends. We are so blessed to be together. Our youngest arrives home tonight from college and we can't wait to see her!

We're having: an 18 lb. turkey and an 8 lb. turkey breast, apple stuffing, cranberry sauce, butternut squash (DD2 will bring), orange-glazed sweet potatoes (in the oven now!), Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, peas and onions, squash soup w/ creme fraiche (Dh is making now), dinner rolls, pecan rolls, pumpkin pie (DD1 is making) and apple pie (DD2 is making). Pies will be topped with fresh whipped cream and/or vanilla bean ice cream. Are you hungry?

Here's our table...the dinnerware is my late mom's Evesham and is very special to me (she loved the holidays...oh, how I miss her....):

Oh Bonnie, your table looks so pretty! Your Mom's dinnerware is beautiful! The crystal looks looks so pretty on that t'cloth. Lucky you to get your family home & a couple extras! Happy Tksgvg & enjoy your time tog! Menu sounds delicious! TFS! Jeanne S.

How wonderful that you have your Mom's dinnerware to use! I'm sure special memories come flooding back each time you pull it out to use. Your menu sounds yummy and how wonderful that your DH helps with some of the cooking. Mine says he helps by staying out of my way! LOL

Bet you will have some fun and lively conversations with the two boyfriends joining you.

Jeanne, I really look forward to seeing dollbaby each season in her new attire. That little hat you made is so darn cute on her--what a talented lady you are. What amazes me most is that you always have just the perfect little dish or cup and some kind of little "toy" additon for her. How wonderful that you still have your little shoes and they work on dollbaby! Just so cute and too much fun. ;o) Your buffet decor with the turkey and wire cloche, your elegant looking pumpkin, the lighted branches and all your wonderful little birds just add such a nice warm homey feeling to your decor. Thank you for your kind words! I like you all very much and admire your own talents in decorating, so it means a lot to know that my own efforts look good to you. OA, I'm really incredibly touched that you think my home looks very welcoming. This has always been my main goal and I'm happy that it shows. A place that's a showplace but unwelcoming and not warm is a house, not a home in my mind. Here's a pic I took recently of my living room. Once again, jane, your 'simple' (the word you used) is so charming & elegant! Your new lanterns on the mantle w/all the pumpkins, leaves & accessories look wonderful...again I love the art work that you've shown a closer view of before. Pheasant decor/plates are beautiful! (like janet I've been on the outlook for one of those lanterns...I gave one to DD for her b'day a couple yrs ago). Those solid white ironstone dishes do make a perfect backgrd for your diff displays in this hutch (& I love your hutches ...both black & white one)! That 'Elephant's Trunk' sounds like a wonderful TS...you sure got some bargains!! All your Johnson Bros are so lovely displayed this time of the yr & it always makes me want to buy a few. Love how you used all the white assessories, too...the pumpkins, tureen, turkeys! So elegant looking! You've really got alot done in a short time, jane! Enjoyed visiting your home again & TFS! Thank you, holiday-ers! ladypat...yes, I wish that t'cloth could talk! Can you imagine? (on someone's table 70 or 75 yrs ago!) phonegirl...working woman...you're up & fixin' ...this is the first time I've used placemats on counter...we're all just a bunch of Enablers R Us! (mmmm, pretzel & broccoli salad sounds good!) jane & luvs...too funny about our ceramics! I loved it! & it was an evening with "adults" ...good memories, too. Thanks for the compliments...while the greenware was wet, my teacher taught how to "lift up" those feathers with a tool & then it was fired or whatever before painting. PM...that turkey was the TJMaxx 50% off ...so $6.50 that I got just recently...remember, I think it was YOUR doings that brought it to my home! LOL! Thanks! oak...I started collecting Jewel Tea in mid 90's ... because I got a few pcs at MIL's estate sale...the hunt has been fun & my china closet is full...altho there's lots more out there! OA...cringe! Red wine! LOL! Everytime I put it on the table I kind of "blank" it out of my mind...my kids don't know the value...but the value is just "using" it! My DS broke a glass a couple yrs ago & now he won't drink out of Jewel Tea glasses! LOL! They make fun of my dish addict syndrome, I think! Jeanne S. ok, I must get off here & peel potatoes! :-)

Bonnieann, I not only enjoyed your photos, I enjoyed your post as well. Except you made me hungry and its going on midnight here. LOL.
Your Mom's dishes are lovely, and its wonderful that you use them on such a special day.
Seven sounds like a nice number to me, and boyfriends this year will add some fun too. I'm sorry your Dad and MIL can't be there, but you're right to feel blessed they are still with you.
Like you, I miss my Mom terribly during the holidays. She loved them. This will be my 10th yr without her, which is hard to believe. Even tho I'm 63, I guess I'll never stop missing my Mom.

Bonnieann, Your table is lovely. Your mom's china looks beautiful on the gold tablecloth. I hope you had a wonderful day. I still miss my Mom too, especially at the holidays.

Hugs to all those who have lost their mom's. I lost mine almost 15 years ago, and I agree with purplemoon, even though I am almost 41, I will never stop missing her.

Lovely table bonnieann. Looks just like home to me since my dad has had that set for ages. We use it at every holiday and it is beautiful. I have my mom's china too. One of these days I will use it. I don't remember her using it much.

Thank you all for your kind words and sweet sentiments. I just returned from visiting Dad, where I recapped the entire day for him and left him with 2 slices of pie made by his granddaughters. We had a few laughs about my putting the Evesham dinnerware in the DW vs. handwashing. He's in total agreement that it's to be used, enjoyed and put in the DW!

What a beautiful table, and you make the food sound so good. Such a classic set of dishes, they will never go out of style, and you have daughters to pass Grandmother's dishes to. Very welcoming table.
