Our laundry room has white cabinets, black and white checkerboard tile on the floor. We painted it BM dill pickle I love it. It's a nice fresh green.

In my white wainscot with B/W floor bathroom I used a really light blue, Sherwin Williams Buoyant Blue, looks really light and ethereal.

In our bathroom (with white wainscoting, white hex floor, and white/black shower tile) we used a retired color from Sherwin Williams called Pale Artichoke (it is not the "Artichoke" in their current color portfolio, you have to ask for the retired color). It is a wonderful neutral gray green, it gives a little color to the other neutrals but does not overpower anything. Like other paints, it does change color depending upon the light in the room, so it may read differently in your space. But this is the 3rd house I have used it in, and I love it everytime. Thanks for your ideas! My son would love the dill pickle, green is his favorite color. :) The pictures of the Nurture and Buoyant Blue swayed me, though -- so pretty! I tried SW Meander Blue (one tick darker than Buoyant on the card) but in our room it looked like something between surgical scrubs and an Easter egg, so we ended up going with SW Tidewater, another grayish/greenish blue. (I didn't see the Artichoke post until too late to check it out.) I have to say I had/ am still having strong second thoughts about SW Mindful Gray, which as a sample on the wall looked spectacular against our tile. Just a different feel than the blue. Maybe we'll repaint with that someday when we are ready for a change.

Thanks again -- amazing how much difference the paint color makes -- and silly me for thinking when the reno started "Oh, it's black and white tile, everything will look fine, I'll just run to the paint store and grab something." ha!

We have a powder room with a black and white mosaic floor from 1938 and white square 4"x4" tiles with white grout, white toilet, going to put in a white pedestal sink. I am painting the upper half of the walls crimson red and have crimson red hand towels, and a piece of black and white artwork with just a touch of crimson in it. LOVE IT. But, we have a crimson dining room and other red accents through the house, so it flows....might not flow for everyone!

Northcarolina, I really like your bathroom. I have decided to do a black/white remake of the main bath in our cape, which is the bath used by guests. I think your bath choices would translate very well to our house too.

What luck that I checked the thread... I wish this forum sent email notifications on replies! Thank you both for the compliments; I am loving the bathroom now that we've been living with it for a little while.

The vanity is a Pegasus Laguna, and we ordered it from Home Depot (it is available elsewhere as well). It is not that dark in real life; it's a medium cherry, very pretty. We did not use the mirror that came with it since we wanted a medicine cabinet.

As for the rest, in case anyone is interested: the faucets, towel bars (not pictured), and wall-mounted soap/toothbrush holders (love those) are Moen. Curved shower rod: BB&B. Subway tile: in stock at HD (Victorian cap was special ordered from local tile company that happened to carry the same brand). Floor tile: Am. Olean (in stock at Lowe's). Sconces: the only ones at the lighting store that would fit in the space between mirror and wall and allow mirror to open. Tub: Americast (because it looked better with the tile than fiberglass, and our renovator begged me not to make him put in cast iron -- husband was not too excited about iron either). Toilet: Am. Standard, and let me just say that for a not-cheap toilet it came with a mighty cheesy plastic seat and really cheesy looking handle, so I replaced both of those with better looking ones (pictured). And let me also just say that I can't believe I have turned into the kind of person who cares what my toilet handle looks like.

This was a to-the-studs total renovation due to floor rot and damaged wall tile and all that good stuff. A great improvement in function as well as looks. And a heads up for anyone else with a house of this age: our original wall tile tested positive for lead on professional evaluation; DIY test was negative.

Hi northcarolina: I thought the same as you - I will just do black and white tile and any paint color will work... nothing is every easy, is it?

We are doing our boys' bath in black and white subway and white octagon with black bot on the floor (all Daltile). My boys chose BM Serenata blue for the walls. It's a Pottery Barn color - I saw it in the BM/Pottery Barn flyer at the paint store with a black vanity and white tile, so decided to go for it.

It's pretty - but it's very blue (at least to me). I think I would have prefered a lighter shade. I think it will be fine once I get the white shower curtain, black vanity, etc. in there...

That's very pretty, remodel-mama. I agree with you that it's very blue, but it's a bright fun color and I think it's a fine choice, especially since it's for your boys. At least they didn't ask for avocado tile, right? ha.
