LR tree is up

Thanksgiving night I had DH drag the tree out. Friday I took a vacation day and decorated. HereÂs the LR tree. I did end up using two types of garland. Wraped the silver/white pretty far in the tree. The pearls didnÂt turn out quite how I wanted. Wanted to double strand them but I think the tree was starting to get busy. Plus I wouldnÂt of had enough. Spent at least 6 hours on this. CouldnÂt hang any ornaments too low because of the cats. So far so good. I personally think it looks better in person that in these pics. I canÂt get my camera settings to work as pretty as you guys. I stuck a ton of silver balls on the inside of the tree but itÂs like half of them disappear on camera. I do need to get the star on top. Should be interesting now. The cord to the star is really short so I need to get one of those three plug things to hook it all together.

The close-ups show how beautiful your tree really is. I have the same problem when photographing, so have had my son take pics of my winter table.

All detail seems to disappear when I take photos! Tam & Judith are the best at taking pics, maybe they should give us lessons!

Hi Nicole........Some sweet girl did a snow tree after seeing trees at Yankee candle company in NC on this forum or the regular decorating forum & posted instructions. I thought her tree was so pretty. She said to get "Buffalo snow" at Wal-Mart, then put alot of it in the center around the branches pushed into the tree & then some spots on the outer branches too. I tried it & it worked on my tree so was happy with the results. Wasn't messy at all. Sorry I haven't seen this before now......Christmas wrapping & baking goodies & shopping are keeping me busy . Yeah, that if something like what I was trying to describe. The ones I've seen look more Mediterranean. Is there a name for these thingies? I was going to find pics of what I was talking about but it is hard to Google for something without a name for it. "Thingies" didn't return many results. LOL.

Thanks for the nice comments. The figurines on the mantel are a collected assortment. The birds (yes, they are metal) and the gargoyles (which are supposed to be hung) are antiques that were always in my in laws home which I admired and as they are in the downsizing mode have found their way into our home. The Father Frost (wooden) is from St. Petersburg Russia where our 2 youngest children are from -- it makes me happy. I didn't buy one when we were there the first time, but made sure to the 2nd. I'm trying to think what else is in the picture . . . oh the ark is an advent calendar (I think from Gardener's Eden???) - has to be up on mantle because it's person is only 2 years old and it is breakable :-)

Hi chicoryflower: I agree that would be nice. I have actually tried to think of a way of doing that--if the room were just a bit larger, and the door on the back fireplace wall were placed a bit differently, the addition of free standing columns along the division between the areas might work. I have tried to make free standing columns work with the current layout--there is just no way. However, when I repaint I will add columns around that door on the fireplace wall--that will give a sense of height from at least some vantage points. Also I have spotted a beautiful red vase (can't afford it right now), but when I can I think it would work on the cabinet that you see in the above picture to the left of the fireplace--a red vessel stands on the bookcase to the right, and I think this one will be about the same size. The red vessel on the bookcase helps the proportion there so I am hoping that a similar treatment on the left plus the columns, while not the perfect solution, could help. Love to see the pics of your aunts--I can always use a smile during winter--I do not like winter!

Your tree turned out really nice. I love all the crystal ornies on there too. Lots of hard work, but you will get to enjoy it now for a few weeks. TFS. Luvs

Shee..you did a great job. You have some beautiful crystal ornies, and the blue, sets everything off nicely. I think your bead garland really came out good. I agree, you worked really hard, and did a fabulous job. Happy First Christmas in your new home!!

Pretty and sparkly, and I LOVE that blue tree skirt. Hope the cats don't. LOL. Mine would think it was a brand new bed for them. Another reason I don't do big trees any more and have become a fan of small table trees instead. I'm "well-trained" by the critters I guess. LOL.

Your LR tree is also very pretty. I love the blue mixed in with all of the other ornaments. You have some very pretty ornies. And I like your pearls draped the way you have them. Another great job. Now sit back and enjoy it. ;~)

Thanks everyone. Kitties do like the skirt. There's cat hair on it already. *sigh*.

Oh my gosh! It looks magical!!!

I really like how you used the blue and those crystals are wonderful.
Dang it, I had a whole conversation with myself about not needing to buy any more ornaments. I'm going to be jonesing for those crystals!
