HELP...Miele Speed Oven Worth the Money?
Comments (24)We have owned the speed oven for 8 years (H4080BM). We liked it and compared to other options are getting a newer model the H7240BMCTS. We use it 85% as an oven and 15% microwave. Agree with many comments re customer service. Very frustrating not be be able to get any technical assistance from Miele customer service. Recently, microwave stopped working properly, and produced an open flame on the ceiling of the unit. Metal coating came off on rag where I tried to clean up the burn marks. Sure some food debris likely caused the flame I guess, but why was metal coming off with the food residue. Miele was able to offer no information about this event. One online "service specialist" said this was caused by a bent part that distributes the microwaves and is not reparable. Rather than spend $200 on a service call to find out it can't be repaired we put that money into a new machine. Cleaning is difficult (particularly in between the broiler elements and the glass try is just impossible to keep clean), surface seems to really hang on to stains but that did not bother us. Manual is very poorly written suggesting that it was ok to microwave with metal rack in on one page and that it was "not recommended" on another page. Oddly enough we had no sparking when we left the rack and glass tray in on microwave mode (though I don't recommend this). Does anyone else leave the rack and tray in when microwaving? Sparking? Convection cooking was excellent, fits half sheet pans, no problem. Cooking is very even and temperature seems very precise. We use this oven every day - everything from roasting to baking. Its easy to use. Its the perfect second over to our larger range. We like that microwave does not have a turntable (all other similar speed/combination ovens seem to), makes it a lot easier to heat up more than one plate. All that being said, if we don't get more than 10 years out of this unit we will be very disappointed and looking for a new option....See Morehelp me with DH! Comments (11)If you are 5' tall or shorter, little squatting will be required. Those 5' 6-8" or taller will have to bend or squat to use it, especially the LCD display. You should see if there are any stores with a display unit that is installed that low to simulate it. And remember, if it's slightly uncomfortable in the store, it will become increasingly exasperating when you live with it. Microwave drawers are often made with tilted displays and obviously the drawer aspect makes it much easier to use than reaching into a low-mounted oven. Comments (17)We rarely have a need for a microwave, but after doing without for three years I knew I wanted one. We opted for the Bosch speed oven, and use it much more than I thought I would. Use is about 30% speed cooking, 20% microwave, and 50% of the time we use it as a small convection oven. However, the oven that has fully won me over is the steam oven. It is wonderful, and after some glitches with the control board it is working flawlessly (Bosch has been top notch for repair and service). It does everything that a regular microwave does except pop corn. Food reheated in a steam oven doesn't even compare to food reheated in a microwave. I've used all three (speed, steam, full size convection) at the same time on quite a few occasions and love having them all. However, if I had to pick just one of the smaller ones to go with my full size it would be the steam. I'd put a tiny microwave in the pantry for that rare need. Comments (19)I love the huge oven cavity that my Bluestar 30" has ... and I honestly have a need for that large cavity once every few years. It's one of those "when you need it, you really need" it things. But that need doesn't happen all that often. In our current remodel, we are getting a Miele CSO and a Miele Speedoven; those are only 24" wide. I expect that, like everybody else in this forum, I'll use them much more frequently than the big oven. If you never cook for really large groups of people, I could definitely see you be OK with smaller ovens. And from what I can tell, it's not as if a 30" wall oven was small. I do have to caution you though that it doesn't look as if the Samsung oven is an actual combination-steam-oven. Instead, it looks to me as if it is a regular oven that has a steam injection feature. That's a lot more limiting. Please read up on the difference before making a decision. Also, while I don't know anything else about this particular model, this forum is generally somewhat negative on Samsung appliances. They don't really have a great reputation for reliability right now. I wouldn't know whether that applies to their ovens, though, or if it is just their refrigerators that everybody seems to hate on....See Morenycbluedevil
