Open office, Win7 64-bit?

Just downloaded OO 3.1.1. System requirements didn't mention Win7. I have been researching and finding conflicting reports that it will work with Win7 64-bit. Anyone have any experience with this combination?

Thanks zep. Win7 sure is different from Xp. but having a great time wandering around bumping into walls...

A thumbdrive. Or a digital camera memory drive/adapter/card. I dont know mac, but they certainly can be networked and looks quite easily from what I see. But then again, I dont have a mac to fiddle with. XP Windows upgrade to 32-Bit Windows 7

When you speak of upgrading "my Dell computer", you're not speaking of installing an upgrade over top of XP are you? If so, I misunderstand, so disregard the rest of my post. :) So I'm assuming you intend to purchase a retail version of Windows 7 and do a clean install. In the first line of your post you mention 512 MB of RAM, a date, and then 2.00 GB of RAM. Does that mean it now has 2.00 GB of RAM or maybe 2 1/2 GB of RAM? Either way, I'm no expert but I'd think 512 MB is less than enough, but either 2 or 2 1/2 GB would be fine. I don't know much about Office, but wasn't Office 2003 was the last version that had the old style menu, before the newfangled ribbon came along. According to this, your Office 2002 would not be compatible but according to this, Office 2003 would be. Would your 2002 macros work in 2003? I don't know. Would it be worth the expense of buying a retail version of Windows 7, as well as Office 2003(or at least Word)? To me, probably not, to you, only you can decide. Personally, since it works, I'd probably just continue using it. Continue running a good real-time AV, occasionally scanning with a couple on-demand malware tools(Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware come to mind), use Firefox or Chrome(lie detected), using the WOT add-on(trusting it somewhat less than fully), and being careful what I open(email) and what I install. camp, I really do NOT like gmail but have to use it to access the mail accounts I have that I used to access smoothly via Outlook Express on WinXP. With dialup, I have to wait for ever for gmail to load and be able to open my mail. I think you answered my first part OK. Thanks. I assume if I DL'd and installed WLM, it would ask at the time if I would want it to be my default mail then. BUT-----Would that only be for on this computer or affect my other computer and make it default also automatically?

Found this on another forum which may help\; Microsoft has a free download for Vitural PC. With this program running in your Windows Vista 64 bit environment, you can run a Windows XP 32 bit environment, and launch an MS DOS environment from there. Additionally, you can create as many of these virtual environments as you want. Unfortunately, Microsoft requires you to have both a Windows XP licience iand a Vista Licence if you are going to run both Vista and XP (even with one in the virtual world). If you own a regerestered copy of XP, I'm told that a work around to this potential problem is to reinstall your virtual XP environment when the preceeding one experies it's 30 day registration requirement. Or; Download virtualbox from Sun for free and run a virtual instance of win xp 32bit, win vista 32bit ...I would suspect licencing for whatever os you choose ie XP or Vista would also apply after the trial period. I have never tried this , just reporting what I have found

As you will see from the link below OO 3.1.1 is being reported to be W7 compatible. Be ready for v3.2 soon-to-be released as it is currently in Release Candidate 5.

Hello Jean,

Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.

There is a pulldown from which you can choose 'hardware' and 'software'.

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!

As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assistance and support.
