Personally I would return to the police and ask to speak with someone conversant in cyber crimes. If they have none in the local office then ask for a supervisor. Then depending on the attitude apply a little pressure. They have the ability to track the Intrnet Service Provider used by the perpetrator and if necessary obtain a court order forcing the internet provider to give them the name of the individual. Sometimes just finding the right person to lodge a complaint with can work wonders especially if you explain the embarrassment and shame you feel.

Also return to Craigslist and red flag the thing continually. Having never had the need to do that I am unsure of the protocol but if multiple notices are permitted then give them a whole load if it is still there.

You might also consider using the offices of a lawyer to draft a warning letter to this bozzo suggesting you will be seeking legal redress on this issue. Occasionally I have had to write such letters and worded properly but vague in the 'further action' category can work wonders. Never did I need lawyer nor did I ever have to write a second letter. Perhaps I was lucky of course but the thoughts of his name being tarnished in the local press might just get rid of him.

While the police officer who came to my house was sympathetic, his attitude was "be grateful you're in a community that accepts gay people"...my issue is not that somebody knows I'm gay, it's the completely inappropriate content with my full name affixed to the banner! I will definitely ask for further help in this matter. I was hoping to avoid attorney's fees, but I'll do whatever it takes. This is part of my ex's motive. To cause as much expense and trouble for me as possible. In the meantime, the officer is going to call this guy's place of employment to get a contact phone number. My ex is conducting this behavior from several states away. I can't imagine that kind of obsession.

I knew someone from an online chat room that had a very similar thing happen to her, her ex went so far as to created some very degrading and disgusting websites about her and included some private pictures he had of her from their time together. I told her to contact cyberangels and they were able to help her.
