Upper Mid Range Kitchen Appliances
Comments (3)Hello, I'll chime in on the Miele dishwasher...of the Futura series (newest), the Dimension seems to be the best bang for buck with features in terms of cost. The Classic is the entry level nd the Diamond I believe is the most expensive. We have two, a Dimension as our primary and a Classic for overflow. Love the both! Good luck! Comments (13)We are in N. CA about 90 min north of Sacramento. We have 1 good (but small) appliance shop in town. We will go to Sac or the bay area for decent appliance shops. Thanks for the feedback, folks. After reading I think part of my thought process was that, over the years, I have had incredibly good luck with appliances. I think I've had maybe 2 or 3 services calls for all appliances I've owned in the last 20 years...perhaps I am blinded by that track record. We had both single and double electric ovens on the list. However, it does look like a range-top with single oven, convection microwave, and a warming drawer will meet our needs. If we did double oven, the microwave would be a standard micro and we would eliminate the warming drawer. As far as how we used our oven, we both cook and bake, but much more of the former. We have just a single oven now and we make it work, but my issue is usually with the semi-frequent 2nd dish that needs cooking and also warming up plates (it's a thing for me). As far as induction, I'll take a look again, but the one time I messed with it, I wasn't a fan. as far as the fridge, the idea of a built it is more about "we're dumping XXX$ into this thing, we want to switch from a full size bottom freezer/french door fridge to a side by side counter depth, so let's get the xtra room". Thanks again for the feedback....See MoreBuilding new home, need advice on mid-range appliances
Comments (24)Helen "As for dripping on toes, again I guess that's a personal thing, but I don't know what would be dripping especially since I would be able to better ensure that all items were level " It's a safety thing. I am not talking about a little drip but an accidental sloshing of a water bath, roasting pan with fat or unexpected bubbling of sphagetti sauce out of a pan onto your foot, ankle or leg. It can run in your shoe. This is also why I mentioned about the rolling racks here. They are a relatively new thing and some come out much more quickly and you can slosh liquids right out of the pan and burn yourself. I know people who have had bakeware shatter when taking it out of the oven because you exceed the thermal tolerances of the dish taking it out of the oven. You might have an unexpected child or animal come out of nowhere. You can teach and warn them to stay away from the stove and no matter how carefully you watch them, accidents happen. In my line of work I have seen people wind up with skin grafts with kitchen spills and resulting burns so I am more aware of these things than most people. No one intends for these things to happen and being a kitchen, you can't eliminate all risks but it is a good thing to be aware of them. I know you said you can only access all the wall ovens from the side so while a consideration for you, I have no trouble at 5'3", standing in front, as my oven door (Electrolux) is only about 20" tall (Bosch is 22 3/8) and I can reach the racks with my back straight and my arms bent, so not everyone loses "all ergonomic advantage" by choosing a pull down door and the protection of the door providing a barrier may be important. The great thing about this forum is that there are often many sides to a coin. You consider pull down oven door a hinderance while I consider it a benefit. Some people are strictly concerned with the design for its aesthetic value so make their choice based on that. Each person has to balance the benefits and risks of each configuration for themselves and their situation and the more information you can gather, the better the decision....See MoreHelp! Comments (13)"Amish Made" does NOT necessarily mean higher quality. To say that Amish made cabinets are higher quality is a very wide sweeping statement to make. Every cabinetmaker is different. I've seen beautiful work by "the Amish" and I've seen "assembled" parts that were not high quality at all...yet were labeled Amish Made because that's who assembled them. Why does this Amish mystique continue? I saw an episode on TV with Vanilla Ica (he had an Amish remodeling show)....and the kitchen they re-did looked mucky and awful. I wouldn't put the cabinets in my shed. Anyway, my point is....just because something is labeled "Amish" doesn't mean it's higher quality. Check them out....if you can tour the shop and see them being made (not just assembled), then maybe you have legit good cabinetmaker.
