Do all of your kitchen's appliance handles have to match?
Comments (7)It'll be fine. Our kitchen has all different handles, and no one notices, including us. As Weissman said, most of us on this forum mix brands in order to get "best in show". It's better to find the best appliance than to find an appliance that you may not like, except that it has a matching handle. Many of us mix finishes in addition to the handles. I've seen some showstopping kitchens on the Kitchens Forum, where there might be white range with a stainless hood, or black fridge with stainless range, etc. And, as you've discovered, handles can be different even within the same brand. Sometimes when I see new-construction home or condo, with a matching suite of appliances, all I think is "hmm, developer must have gotten a deal on a bulk purchase of appliances". I think the kitchens with different appliances look like someone has put thought into their choices. By the way, which stainless fridge has black handles? I haven't seen that. Can you provide a name and model?...See MoreDo your white bath fixtures match?
Comments (6)I mixed American Standard Studio sinks with a Toto Promenade toilet. All whites are not the same, though. The American Standard white is not as bright a white as some manufacturers. In particular, the American Standard white was a match for the Toto Colonial White. So, you do have to compare the colors of different manufacturers if you're looking for a color match....See MoreHow well do all your finishes match??
Comments (18)Hi--I thought this post had sort of dribbled away but it seems to have revived itself. I was thinking of posting a followup anyway--so here it is: I have decided to just get what I like. Connie, you and I are thinking alike and I hope we're right! The black will go with the counter and be a neutral, the copper is just itself and is beautiful, and ditto the nickel and it also goes with the stainless steel. And to really confuse things I am getting hand-rubbed brass fixtures for the family room. I went to the store and saw them in person and they were too warm and beautiful to resist. I have decided that the Victorians did not have the luxury of ten finishes to choose from--things would have come one way (and I think iron knobs, brass lights, nickel kitchen fixtures and copper hoods were all actual Victorian choices) and so what I am doing is sort of authentic :) can you tell that I'm at the point in the reno where I just don't care anymore?? ;) thank you everyone for the patina suggestions--will let you know how that goes. Comments (18)This is a great question and topic and one I've been rolling around as I make plans for my new house. I have much of the small house painted the same color-- I didnt start out with that plan. The house flows so much better now with one color (BM Anjou Pear)-- and it feels bigger. It also carries a great vibe through the house because, while an intense color, I love it! My plan is to use accent colors to both distinguish the rooms that are all painted Anjou Pear but also to provide continuity with the bedrooms and baths that will be different colors. Turquoise, black, white and flax will all be accent colors-- heavy in some rooms and just a splash in others. So far, I've only painted one bedroom-- it's a very pale gray with a darker gray planned for the adjoining bath. I'll bring in a hint of Anjou Pear with white linens and shades of gray. I expect to bring in the turquoise and flax into the other rooms. I don't have such a hard time seeing these color threads through the house-- it's style continuity that I struggle with. This will come with time too. Do you have a palette worked out yet? What colors are you considering?...See Morepalimpsest
