Yes, I would remove Easyshare and put the original version back on the computer. No harm can come from that.

Regarding those photos, you should not lose them if you take simple precautions. I am not familiar with Easyshare so have no idea what they do. However so many programs feel the need to control you that the photos may indeed be in a sub folder inside the Easyshare program. If this is the case then use Windows Explorer to drag and drop the whole folder of photos into another folder, perhaps 'My pictures'. I never allow any program to store my work within that program, it just makes backing up data that much more frustrating. My work gets redirected to folders inside My Documents.

I'm not the expert here, but I did just get a thumbdrive to store all my photos on. It was easy enough to move them from the Kodak file on the C drive over to a new file on the new F drive. When I do anything I can just take the thumbdrive out and not risk the photos being messed with in any way.

Thank you owbist and tommysmommy for your information they are greatly appreciated. I think I will remove easyshare and put in the original CD and go from there. I still have my pictures in my camera so I really won't lose them since they are still inside the camera. Thanks again.

We keep running into these kinds of problems when people install these 3rd party software tools that come with cameras. The easiest thing to do is not use any of the software they give you with the camera, you do NOT need it.
Simply get a memory card reader if your pc does not have one built in, they are extremely cheap like $15(I paid less), they plug into a usb port on your pc and you just take your memory card out of your camera stick it in the card reader and copy them to your hard drive in a FOLDER you create not some software creates, so you know exactly where they are and how to access them when you need to and they are readily available should you need to back them up.

Personally I would take the step you mentioned to remove that software but I would stop there and not re-install anything, use a card reader, just be sure you get a usb 2.0 version and one that takes the type of card your camera uses. If you use the new SDHC (SD High Capacity) type cards make sure the card reader does support them.

I haven't uninstalled it yet because I haven't had the time to do so but I most definately am going to do that. I have had nothing but problems trying to do things with that software in the past. (Before this other stuff started happening) I have a Kodak easyshare C743 digital camera. I use the SanDisk memory cards, 1.0 GB.

I also have the HP Photosmart C6280 all in one printer and scanner, but I think I can only use that from scanning pictures from the scanner, not from the camera. I'm not 100 percent sure of that though.

Now here is another problem for me, I do not have any Imaging software to down size the pictures if I want to send them via email.

With this information could you send me some recommendations on what I need to resize the pictures using imaging software that won't conflict with microsoft and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. "Smiles"

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I don't normally order anything online because of fear of identity theft. We have in the past had this problem. So I normally go to the normal stores to purchase my items.

We have Wal-mart, Target, Best Buy, Radio Shack and of cource a camera store.

I honestly don't know where to go with this new route with the camera. I never owned a digital camera until last year. So all of this is really new to me. If I am posting this incorrectly on this forum I am sorry, but since you brought it up I thought I would just post it here. Hope that is OK.

It also takes good pictures in normal light. I have never had a camera that has worked so well, but their software is the worst.

you can get a good memory card reader at any of the stores you listed, you want to make sure the one you get takes your type of memory card and according to Kodac that one can take SD or MMC. Most people use the SD type. That is a very popular type so most all memory card readers will take SD cards.
You also want to read on the package that it is a USB 2.0 it can be backward compatible with 1.1 but you want to get one that does 2.0 that is newer and faster.
They will either have an attached usb cord and plug on them or will come with one. You use that usb plug to plug it into your usb port on your pc. Then you plug your memory card from your camera into the SD slot in the reader.

You do not need to buy any editing software there is plenty good stuff free and you can add a little powertoy to XP that will add a right click menu item which will let you choose to resize any picture on your pc that you right click on.

That printer has a built in memory card reader on it so you can probably use that one if you have the printer connected to your pc. Have you checked your computer to see if it has a built in card reader? What model pc do you have?

nice graphics Urlee! I don't have memory card slots on any of mine but I do continue to get the floppy drives, they are dirt cheap so might as well.

I have a usb cable run to each of my computers that come to my desktop and on each one I have a usb hub attached that sits on my desktop which makes it super easy to plug in my card reader (or flash drive etc) to which ever pc I want it attached to, no bending under the desk to plug anything in. At my age the less bending and crawling around the better LOL

I use the Windows XP native Scanner and Camera Wizard (located in Control Panel) to download pictures from my Easyshare. The Kodak software just wouldn't work correctly and I am quite able to read and understand the directions.

Did you get the USB cable for your camera? That's all you need, although a card reader is nice, it's not totally needed.

Since you have card readers on both your computer and your printer/scanner, you really have no need for a separate card reader. Just take the card out of your camera and put it into the reader on the computer to put your pictures on your computer---you decide where you'd like to store them---and for printing you can just put the card into the reader on the printer. Gee, you have all the bells and whistles!

The links RC gave you for resizing your pictures give you choices. If you want to do more editing than just the resizing, Irfanview offers lots of goodies.

Unfortunately we do not know if the original poster has card readers on her pc we have not been provided the model of her pc yet only of her camera and her printer.
If that is the case that the pc does have them then that would be an option.
One plus to using a card reader is that you do not have to have the camera involved or active so no drain on the battery.

Another option I have really been enjoying personally is the free online picnik editor, which also has some great firefox add-ons that make it extremely easy to use.

I went into the control panel and there is scanners and cameras listed there. When I click on that nothing is there. Yes I have the usb cable for the camera. I used that to plug into my computer and then easyshare software popped up and I could download them to the easyshare software, but now it is acting up and it won't run since I did the update on kodak easyshare. That's all that I know.

From the looks of your picture Urlee, I do not have anything like that. I do have it in my HP photosmart printer. It has on it one large slot on the left that has CF on top and a large slot with xd on it at the bottom. Now next to those slots on the right is SD.(MMC below the SD) next below that small slot it says MS/DUO

I might be able to get the guys who built this computer to put one in for me because there is an empty place there for one, but since I already have one on my printer why can't I do that using the slot on my printer?

ravencajun my pc is a clone, I had it built but the case says on it A/OPEN. I had it built around 6 years ago. I am thinking it won't be to long before I will have to purchase a new computer but my other one lasted me 7 years. I have had very good luck with having them built over purchasing something like an HP etc. If it wasn't put there then that would have been my fault because I didn't know any better when I purchased it. I am sure learning and will know what to have put on my next computer hopefully.

you will need to look in your printer manual to see how to use the one there on the printer I would think you could use the sd slot on it and put your card in there and be able to transfer them too the pc since it is connected. I have not used one on the printer before however.

If that will not work then go with just getting a little cheap card reader and be done with it LOL

I like having custom built computers too get just what you want that way.

In my windows the scanner and camera wizard is under start all programs > accessories > but it opens automatically when I put a card in the card reader. I would put a card in the proper slot on your printer and see if the computer recognizes it and starts the wizard for you.

I went into my HP Solution Center and there is a place that says Transfer Image and when I put my mouse up to it this is what it says. Save images to your computer from a camera or a memory card. When I clicked on that Live watch popped up and recommended that I block ntvdm.exe 3912. I didn't touch it and it went away. I think if I do that it might mess my HP Solution Center up. I don't know what in the world is going on here. This is coming from AdAware Anniversary Edition.

Yes, putting it in the printer slot works the same as putting it in the computer one. It's like your TV running through your VCR first and you still get the picture.
I did buy a Zio card reader years ago for my Win98 computer but never used it. It has a USB cord on it.

I place my memory card in the HP printer, up pops the Windows scanner and camera wizard as Bob notes and off we go. Just so simple.

Because I can nevr remember the drive letter asigned to the card reader I close the printer to remove the card.

well there you go just stick your memory card in the printer memory card slot for the sd card and it should work as they said, it will pop up on your monitor and you are ready to go.
