Oops, that posted before I was ready. Anyway, my question to them was different, but I had told them that i was using cartridge 70 in the first email, and since it took 3 1/2 for them to tell me what I already know, I don't want to waste anymore time with them.

I'm just trying to salvage a bit of the $40 I paid for the cartridge. Lesson learned, (I hope)

When I used to refill inks there was always a sponge like substance inside to absorb the fluid. If this is still the case I doubt you would be very successful in retrieving the liquid and any measurable amounts. Of course if you have the syringes already then the only thing you would lose trying might be time.

Have you tried taking it back or calling the store you got it at? I had that happen with my Epson printer and didn't realize it was the wrong one until I opened the package and went to install it. I took it back to Office Depot and explained I grabbed the wrong one and they exchangd it with no problem. You might try that before you actually deface the cartridge because I'm sure they would not even consider exchanging it if you did.

msm84, good idea. I didn't think there was any chance they would do that or I would have already doe it, but I just called, and he said to bring it in & they would. So I am off right now to see if it is really so. Thanks for the suggestion.

Msm84, YES, they did an exchange no problem. Didn't even check out the returned cartridge! I am amazed it was so easy. The store was STAPLES. Ive been happy with their service for awhile. The only thing I have a complaint about is that recently they have begun giving Rewards card rebates instead of cash rebates on some purchases. And of course the rebate must then be spent at Staples. That's an inconvenience, especially since I'm not a business, and don't have that much need to purchase a lot.

Staples now goes on the list along with Office Depot as a business that DOES work with a customer even if the customer made a mistake in the first place! Now days you gotta love it :o)

BTW, Office Depot also gives "Rewards" now instead of instant credit. I wasn't happy with it either, but when I get the cash card in the mail every 3 months I really do appreciate it. Especially when I go through about 7-10 ink cartridges per week. They just don't take Epson for the $3.00 credit and thats my main printer. Alls I get is 10% of the cost. Better then nothing though.

Owbist, I forgot to thank you for your response earlier. I have done the refill many times before too, but I didn't think about the sponge possibly being a deterrent. Anyway, thanks for pitching in and trying to help. Cookies to you too.

MsM84, while I was at Staples this morning I picked up a sales flyer, and guess what - it says they are now accepting ANY ink & toner for $3 recycle, including Brother, Canon and EPSON. So maybe you can switch to them, or I'll bet Office Depot will follow suit, if they haven't already.

Janette I haven't checked at Staples yet since they started that and I do have their Reward card too, but they don't carry the Epson catridge I use. Its for a pro photo printer. The last time I checked I could order them through the Staples catolog except there are times (alot of them) when I need the ink right away. I'll check with them again, but as far I know Office Depot is the only place in my area that carries them in their store.

I got a shredder recently at Staples with $50. rebate and called to find out about the reward card. Sorry I can't remember why they do cards now but it did make sense.

That card can be used anywhere--not just Staples. I used $40. of it at the grocery store and still have $10. left on it.

Breenthumb, I've gotten a couple of the rebate cards, they were like Visa cards and could be used anywhere. I don't have any objection to getting those. But the latest rebate I applied for said I would get a Staples rewards card, that sounds to me like it is good only at Staples. I haven't gotten it yet, so I don't know for sure. it should be here any day. So I am anxiously (LOL) awaiting. It's just that it will take awhile to use up $40 or $50 at Staples. I liked a more immediate return of my money. Still it is better than nothing. We'll see when it gets here
