Open Word, click Tools at the top of the screen, Click Options in the drop down menu. If the 'View' page is not on the top click the 'View' tab it to bring it on top. Now look down the left side to the second set of choices named 'Formatting marks'. Yours should have a tick in the 'Spaces' and 'Paragraph marks'. Click on each mark to remove it then click OK and you should be good to go.

First copy and save your document with a new name in case things mess up! Then this link should start you in the right direction, but it might also be worth Googling for "remove Word sections" because the page format will probably change as you remove the unwanted "sections". I would have a difficult time justifying storing my personal info in space. So I would opt for Open Office. I know little about such things, but I would tend to take the opposite view for my own situation. I think of programs like Open Office (and email clients like Outlook) as kind of like a mail box one has at the end of one's driveway. It's at one's home, but a lot of things can go wrong on your end (weather damage, vandalism, etc.). Online storage (and webmail clients) on the other hand, to me, are like a Post Office (or safety deposit box). It's (supposedly) a safer place to keep one's 'stuff,' because it's in the hands of professionals -- with professional back-ups as well. Of course, that's just my view and anyway I'm not2bright. ;-)

Works is the only word processor I have ever worked with, other than a couple of times on DH's computer. At least I am slightly familiar with it. Works won't let me change to a RTF or a txt. DH tried that. The old system is XP about 5 yrs old. It came on that computer, no seperate disc to install it. This new one is Windows 7. I have almost everything changed over using Office 2003 that I installed on the old computer to make the changes. Now I have to decide if I'm going to fight with figuring out how to make everything open in Open Office, or if I'm going to go buy Office Home & Student.I have a few files, like our trip journals that I have inserted photos into, and it doesn't want to copy and paste into Word, so I haven't decided what I'm going to do about that. Dad has a collection of antique gas hit and miss engines that I made an inventory of with all the serial numbers that we could read. He has a printed copy and I have the computer copy. It won't c & p that either, so I will put that on a flash drive and DH will print that off at work, so we at least have 2 hard copies. That's about 30 pages in color! I may try coping and pasting a page at a time instead of the whole document, but I've had enough sitting by the freezing cold window working on it for 2 days! I am learning to like sitting in my recliner with the computer in my lap in the winter! I guess with the flu in the house and my DB's accident yesterday, and my frustrations with the computer, I am just in a grumbling mood! So thanks for putting up with me! Tami
