Convection Oven/Convection Microwave Combination

I have been all over the internet and have read everything that I can. I'm looking for a convection oven/convection microwave combination wall oven 27" (not as many choices with a 27") The oven that caught my eye originally was the Kitchenaid KEMS378SSS. There are a lot of unhappy people with Kitchenaid ovens, and I don't know if these are older models and if they have fixed the issues yet? I called US-Appliance.com, and asked which vendor they would recommend, and they recommended Kitchenaid.

If I had money oozing out of every pour, I would consider the Miele.

There appears to be a lot of history and knowledge on this site. Does anyone have any ideas for a direction I should go in?

I could split the units up, and go with a single lower oven, and a different brand of microwave which might give me more flexibility.

Thoughts?

How are you planning on using it? If it's a go to oven everyday then the xtra grand for the Miele is well worth it. If you'll just warm coffee and pizza couple of times a week and bake a pie at T'giving then you can get by with a cheaper convection /micro unit from Sharp or Panasonic or one of their rebadging partners like Dacor, Wolf, Thermador, ect...

I went with the GE Profile convection oven (27") combined with the GE Profile Advantium 120 oven (27"). Two separate units, but in the same oven stack and they look great.
In my mind it's the perfect combination. The Advantium 120 can cook as a microwave, as a convection oven, as a speedcooker, and also has warming drawer function and a bread proofing function.... I encourage you to check it out.

I have a KitchenAid Superba range w/convection and a Whirlpool Gold w/convection microwave. I just really started using the convection setting on the range for baking cookies, etc. It does cut down on the baking time, especially if you use at least three of the racks. The cookies bake and look the same when finished baking. I used it today for lasagna. You cut the temps. by at least 25 degrees and also the baking time. The convection feature with the microwave I REALLY appreciate at holiday dinners & parties since it bakes/roasts like a regular oven. Combo cooking is available - use the MW for speed cooking and the convection to finish. I have never tried it for toast. I would think a toaster and hopefully, a toaster oven, would be faster since the heating elements are very close to the bread. The only con, if any, is that the microwave I have is large. I am trying to find a good toaster oven (for toast, etc.) since our present toaster needs replaced. I figured the toaster oven has more uses, but I do not want a large appliance taking up counter space. Our microwave is incorporated in a wall unit with a cabinet above, and a cabinet below, not on the counter. If you have any tips on a good toaster oven I would appreciate them. Good luck. Jane

I was advised by a couple different salespeople at high end showrooms that if you want this set up, it's best to purchase separate units and mount them above each other in the same cabinet. Ovens have a long working life. Microwaves often don't. So if your micro goes out after 5 years, you're not investing $3k to replace it along with an oven that works perfectly fine. I took that advice. We're putting in a Kitchenaid convection oven with a Kitchenaid built-in micro right above it. It gives the same look. We're getting the Wolf Combi Steam + Wall Oven. Haven't used them yet (a broken granite slab is pushing the install dates back), but our plan is that we'll probably use the steam oven most of the time, and the big oven just for holidays, or when we need a second oven or the broiler. Again, not speaking from experience just yet, but my understanding is that we'll probably use the steam oven for a lot of things that we currently do in the microwave (like reheating leftovers). My wife has never been a big microwave fan anyway, so we'll probably just continue with our small countertop model. I would personally rather leave out the drawer microwave and invest that money in a full-size traditional oven. I don't think Wolf ever said that their steam oven has broiler like capabilities. They do say that they can somehow brown the outside of meat with a combination of heat and steam. As long as you'll have at least one oven with a broiler though, I don't see that the lack of a broiler on the Wolf should sway your purchase decision. Finally, keep in mind that the Wolf 30" steam oven is really a 24" oven with a bigger faceplate that matches their traditional ovens. It only goes up to 450 degrees as well, so I'm not sure that your pizza stone will do you much good.

It's possible that the convection microwave would do it, especially if it's a built-in, 240V, but if your current toaster oven is as perfect for your current needs as it sounds, I'd keep it so long as it's functional. I have some doubts about the 120V convection MWs--I've only used them at others' houses but they seem inadequate. You can decide after you have the new kitchen if you prefer another appliance for your toaster oven uses. I'd guess that the smaller range oven would be a better toaster oven alternative, but I can't guess about heating times, etc. A good range oven should heat evenly. It may not, but it should.

This is tough because it is going into my 90 year old's mother's house, where she will not be able to understand any bells and whistles, BUT I own the house, and ultimately will be living in it.

We probably won't be baking everyday, but I will be retired in a few years, and I'm sure we will use our kitchen more often. I don't need top of the line, but I don't want low end either.

I looked at the GE Profile as one of my options with the Advantium 120. People were critical of the Advantium, but I think that may be older models?

Well, the Miele with a Masterchef on top would be too cool, but I think that tops $6k. I was probably looking at around $3k, unless you convince me otherwise. ;-)

The Miele speed oven (microwave + convection ) is not 6k, it is around 3 grand and you can find a few good deals because a new model is comming.

That said I don't think it's all that great for someone in their 90's. Too many screens to navigate and their is NO tactile feedback form the keyboard.
