missing driver file after virus scan

Pooh Bear

Someone brought me a computer to work on.

I booted it up and not much looked amiss.

I disabled some startup programs and installed Avast.

After I installed Avast I ran a boot time scan.

It found a bunch of stuff and I let it delete it.

Now the computer won't boot up.

I get a message saying:

Unable to load device driver

\systemroot\system32\drivers\$sys$cor.sys

Apparently this file has something to do with Sony DRM.

My immediate problem is the computer won't boot.

It may be malware but I'd be happy to put the file back

if it will help me boot this computer. Plus any of the

other files that were deleted if they are needed.

I tried Last Known Good Configuration. Didn't work.

I also tried Safe Mode. Same result.

I should have went about this a little more methodically.

Now I'm in need of some serious help.

Windows 2000 Pro.

Thanks in advance.
