Web cams

My son got a Creative WebCam Instant from his g-friend for Christmas.

He tried the chintzy over/in ear headset/microphone that came with the system, but it hurt his ear canal.

So I bought him an OTE-only headset/boom microphone. But like the one that came with the web cam, he didn't like the fact that the headset/mic has to stay plugged in & worn all the time, or he has to pull out the comp & unplug the headset/mic when it's not needed & pull the comp back out & plug the headset/mic back in when it's needed.

He asked if there was a case with mic & speaker ports in the front, but I don't know & don't find it's worth it if there's a cheaper "cure".

So I returned the headset/mic & bought a GE stand-alone mic since he has separate headphones that plug into his speakers.

He has to put his mouth directly up to the mic & shout to get the mic bars to jump, & his g-friend still can't hear him.

He tried adjusting the settings by way of the control panel & the web cam mic, but nothing's helped.

Is there an inexpensive "cure" for any of this?
