I love the platter.

Love your new turkey and love how you put him on the platter with fruit, pinecones, etc. You did a great job.

If I'd have seen him first, you wouldn't have won! I think he's just great. Good for you (although, I'm a little bit jealous). The surrounding fruit, pine cones, leaves, etc, really serve to set him off. Very nice job.

I so glad you found the perfect turkey at last . . . your Thanksgiving table looks great with it! Love, love, love your lace placemats. You've inspired me to look for some for my own table! I really like the blue transferware plates with your holiday decs. It's not something I've seen a lot of at Thanksgiving, but the color contrast is wonderful! It looks very "Thanksgiving in New England"-ish to me. Congrats on your beautiful table.

OA...hmmm glad we didn't have to 'go at it'. I think you would have been a tough competitor. Thanks for the compliments. By the way, there was just two days left on the bidding, and w/no bids in..I made her an offer a little higher than the proposed first bid offer...She accepted it. I've done that before, and find it works out great.

I think the transferware pattern (quails) fits in well with the Thanksgiving theme, especially around here. There are 'herds' of turkey, quail and pheasant. I keep thinking they are so brave parading around here right before Thanksgiving.. lol

Is that tatting that you've used as a placemat?? You're so brave! I have my great grandmother's tatting and I guard it with an iron fist so that it doesn't get ruined! HAHA! I haven't seen any other tatting in a long time. It seems to be quite rare.

LOVE IT ALL. I'm so glad you got the turkey (and if you want a slight sheen on him, spray him with Krylon Clear Satin. I use that a lot on matte pieces. Or the high gloss if I want them to look like china).
Congratulations on the "new" old dining room set. What a lot of work you put into it, but what a treasure for you to have.
Everything is just SO pretty!! Especially those blue dishes.

superchick.Thank you..don't give up on finding your turkey..you have two more weeks till T-Day..I had given up, but then was inspired by Tam's Turkey, and found him. Yes, the placemats are tatting, and I hate to say it, but just for 'show' for the picture. My two grandmas used to do tatting. I also had a friend from Sweden who would do it and so fast too. She would sell her things to specialty shops. I always wanted to learn but never did.

Karen..Thanks for the compliments. I have the Krylon Clear Satin and would love to use it on him..it's DH who's stopping me. He says he likes him better looking natural. I think though, before I store it away, I will sneak some Clear Satin on him...Maybe next year, DH won't remember. lol
The DR table & chairs went pretty quickly. I sanded everything down lightly. DH restained the top of the table and then we painted the rest w/Krylon Black Satin finish..They came out beautifully. The wood is maple, but was a very lite color. Rather than strip and restain everything, we went for the black on the table apron and legs, and all the Chairs. I ordered online, Country French Rooster fabric by Waverly to recover the chair seats..and it looks like a new set..but still Mom's.

Love the way you arranged him on the platter with all the goodies around him--yes, he does look like he could be the main course! I love the Furnival's pattern, too. I have a little teacup in that design my aunt found for me when we were antiquing. I've looked at the pattern on ebay, but I can't ever afford or I talk myself out of bidding on the pieces in the end. I'm a sucker for birds on china!

Jane, how smart of you to even try to get a turkey like Tam's! I had loved her's but never thought there would be another one "out there" that I could get up here. I like the decorations you put around him too. Your new/old dining room set looks terrific and probably "goes" with more tablescapes than your old one as it has the more neutral chairs. Of course, how special that it was your Mom's.

That is wonderful Jane.... I think having your Mom's set is the best gift you could give yourself. DH was sick over the weekend, so we slept in the den...he on the couch and me in the recliner to keep one eye on him and the other on my Mom's hutch in the DR. It was so pleasant to drift off to sleep in the glowing darkness, with the cat "buzzing" away on my shoulder and a beautiful view of the hutch in sight! Nightlights create a beautiful ambiance.

I've been watching on Homeclick..they have the dinner plates for $7.20..w/no Picutre, saying image coming soon. The price seems too low, and w/no pic..I'm not convinced to buy. As a bird plate lover, you would love the Pheasant Platters that I have. They are b&w transferware and are very large..I can't believe what they want for them on Ebay.

dd..Thank you for the compliments. I just got lucky last time around on Ebay. After seeing Tam's..it just inspired me to look again..I was just so surprised to find him. I had been looking for just that kind of turkey two months with no luck. Thank you for the compliments on the DR..I'm glad we were able to give it a 'new life'.

I LOVE your turkey! He looks like chocolate...I have a lot of ceramic turkeys but none very big. I'll keep looking 'till I have a centerpiece. Sounds like I'll have lots of competition (ha ha)!

If I'm not mistaken, your placemats are crocheted, not tatted. Tatting is made with rings and chains and has a very distinctive look. Crocheted or tatted, I think they're gorgeous.

jane - just a beautiful table setting and how cool to be able to use your mothers dining set. I have an old white drop leaf table that my Mom and Daddy got the year they got married in 1932.

Congrats on getting the turkey also - he looks great on that platter......
