Fine Black Lines on Printer Output

I posted on this problem a month ago: fine black lines across the printed page in Photoshop Elements, XP, Epson Stylus Photo 2800.

Things have gotten worse: the printer is now dead in the water, Epson Tech Support wants it taken in to service center for terminal care.

Hurray for the dead printer! Long live the new printer!

If you don't need color, consider a Brother Laser printer. Inexpensive, reliable and the toner lasts forever. I have one and they are really good and don't cost very much.

I am not enamoured with Epson printers. I have found that photos that were printed with the photo printer faded badly. I have some that are side by side with what I have printed with my HP. No comparison - the HP ones look so much better. It doesn't take long for the Epson photos to start looking washed out.

I would never repair a printer (unless it was 100% covered under a warranty) - it is far cheaper to buy new. I hate the fact that we are filling our landfills with this stuff though.

It is most likely that your print head needs cleaning. Look for printers in your control panel and find the properties menu. click on utilities do each of the 3 items listed. They should be 1)Nozzle check 2)Head Cleaning 3)Print Head Alignment. Be sure to print a test page for each step as this will tell you if the process is successful or not. Also, You may have to do the head cleaning more than once. Don't despair it sometimes happens that the procedure has to be repeated twice or ever 3 times.

First I'd go to www.fixyourownprinter.com and check out all the information there on your Epson. Epsons are not highly rated as they waste too much ink and clog far too easily. With the changes in Epson ink formulations to make it difficult for generic ink suppliers, the clogging gets worse. That website has a link to cleaning supplies that do work with no damage to your machine. You might check out UTube for instructions on making an external waste ink collector before you get the dreaded "end of service life" error message. With Epsons, prevention is everything.

well i assume all that 'crap' i did cleaned the nozzles and aligned the print head. this is pretty much greek to me. you have hit upon a problem that i know is most likely my problem. no, i seldom print anything, like 1 time every month but more likely once every 2 or 3 months. but using this printer since 11/2003 i have done this and just now this problem happens. as i was not having a problem all those years, i figured it was ok to just not using the printer. the document i was having trouble with was a pdf. i copied the text into MS word and thought i would be able to change the text color to say blue. i was not able to do that. so a 2nd question is why? if i could change the color in word i'd be able to print the doc. tom

Did the half image fill the page or was the page only half filled? Did you use the 'Print preview' and resize before printing? Take a look at the link I provided if you are unsure Norm If half the image filled the page you definitely need to use the 'Print preview feature and move the picture around to set it how you want it to look. Be sure to grab the corner 'ears' to resize the picture so that it does not get distorted. Using the side or top ears to resize will give you either short fat folk or tall skinny folk. Oh bite my tongue! It is the Canon printer that fades so bad!

I had it in my head it was an Epson - but it was a Canon photo printer that looked so bad.

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R320 and LOVE it other than the fact that it gobbles ink.

When or if I get lines across the printout, That means the heads need cleaning for which I run it through the cleaning cycle and all is OK again.
Love the print to disk feature to water shield TY's.

I'm getting a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer, which will allow 13 x 19 inch prints. I haven't seen the actual output from this printer, yet, but I hope it's good.
