48-inch hood over 36-inch rangetop?
Comments (9)Note that as the hood gets larger, so does the cfm requirement, even though the range/stove underneath is the same. The reason is that the velocity of air through the baffles needs to be in the ballpark of that of the uprising and expanding effluent for good containment. Proportionately more cfm through a larger hood will generate the same baffle noise per square foot of baffles, but overall the total sound level will be higher. This baffle noise is not particularly intrusive, though, so it shouldn't be a large concern. On the other hand, a nearby larger fan could be noisier if it is designed to move air with small high velocity blades instead of large low velocity blades. If part of the hood, the combination should be audited for noise. For a lot of cooking, adequate capture and containment is achieved at lower fan settings, so noise from suitable components should be below conversation level at reduced power. At high fan power, there will be a difference in the noise with a roof-mounted fan and intermediate silencer versus an in-hood fan. kas...See MoreHow high to mount a 24 inch deep, 36 inch wide hood?
Comments (11)We haven't installed the hood yet, but I have worked on the plan. I am thinking of a 22" deep hood built out from the wall by 7", for a total depth of 29". I did some geometry to arrive at a good combination of 1. non head banging 2. good smoke capture. The above would be a non-standard installation height however I think it would work best in our case. This is discussed in painful detail in my thread below. Something to be aware of is that the higher the hood is mounted, the louder it will sound. You could see how this works by lowering your head beside an operating hood. Comments (15)@Ellen Allard My sink is from Havens Metal. Havens Metal When I was remodeling I did a lot of research on copper sinks once I decided I wanted one and so I knew that I wanted a sink that had a living patina and not any kind of artificial factory patina. The sink is expensive - a luxury but I love it. The other maker of high quality sinks is Rachiele and they are equivalent. Havens actually fabricated the Rachiele sinks for many years until they went their separate ways. When I purchased my sink, Havens was about $1000 less for the same configuration. The quality is equivalent but Havens is a slightly larger operation and makes more than sinks so they have economy of scale to some degree. I do have a less expensive copper sink in my guest bath with an artificial factory finish. I was fine with that because it just doesn't get the same kind of wear from people washing their hands a few times a week. That sink is from Premier Copper Products. I mention them because they do have some great copper stuff that is well priced. My hood is a custom job from them and they also did a custom copper medallion my designer sketched for them. I also have some copper tiles from them interspersed in my back splash as well as switch plates. Premier Copper...See More48 inch hood over 36 inch cooktop -- will it look bad?
Comments (13)Many kitchens today have a "mantle style" hood that comes down onto the counter, similar to gibbys you need a least 6" clearance both sides and a high CFM vent if you are using a commercial style cooktop For a 36" range or cooktop 48 is possibly ok you may want to go wider Check your appliance specs, and code allowances I think they look beautiful how practical is another story...See MoreMongoCT
