48-inch hood over 36-inch rangetop?
Comments (9)Note that as the hood gets larger, so does the cfm requirement, even though the range/stove underneath is the same. The reason is that the velocity of air through the baffles needs to be in the ballpark of that of the uprising and expanding effluent for good containment. Proportionately more cfm through a larger hood will generate the same baffle noise per square foot of baffles, but overall the total sound level will be higher. This baffle noise is not particularly intrusive, though, so it shouldn't be a large concern. On the other hand, a nearby larger fan could be noisier if it is designed to move air with small high velocity blades instead of large low velocity blades. If part of the hood, the combination should be audited for noise. For a lot of cooking, adequate capture and containment is achieved at lower fan settings, so noise from suitable components should be below conversation level at reduced power. At high fan power, there will be a difference in the noise with a roof-mounted fan and intermediate silencer versus an in-hood fan. kas...See More2007 wolf induction 36 inch cooktop / 30 inch oven
Comments (1)The main differences in the cooktops (besides price) are (1) Wolf has a control layout that I prefer--I like the touchpad on the side, (2) texture vs. slick top, and (3) timers on the Miele actually turn off burners, but not on the Wolf. I only know that from excessive shopping, not actual use. And I know less about ovens, but I wouldn't feel compelled to get matching brands unless the separate units were both what you wanted. Half off sounds nice...But it's OK to go half Wolf and half Miele unless they look really bad together....See MoreHood for Bluestar 36 inch cooktop - please suggest
Comments (9)I have the Zephyr Monsoon DCBL series, but that is an insert not an full hood. But I like the brand and have no regrets going with it over my 36" BS Range Top. It is not wider than the range top and probably could be deeper, but for our cooking style it has not been an issue. Prior to our kitchen remodel we only had a OTR microwave and the vent from that, which was vented to outside. But any time we cooked almost anything in that setup we would set off the smoke detector in the kitchen. And, since our town home has the smoke detectors all hardwired to each other, they all went off. The smoke detector is about 15 feet or so away from the cooking surface, maybe a littler farther. Since we have gone to the BS range top and the new Zephyr hood we have not set it off even one time in 6+ months now. I know that an OTR hood and a real vented hood are not the same, but just wanted to point out that with the higher heat output of the BS compared to our old wimpy 4 burner GE range, we have not had any issues to speak of and I would recommend the Zephyr brand based on that.
