The Ribbons are Beautiful!

Just beautiful. I am in the process of decorating three sleds my sister brought to me from Pennyslvania but I haven't seen such beautiful ribbon. Do you mind telling where you purchased it? Thanks,

Thanks, the ribbon was purchased at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. It was a HUGE roll!! That's usually where I buy all of my ribbon - when it's on sale.

Dawn, those are just gorgeous!!!!!!!!! You did a fantastic job on them. I'd love to find an old sled, which is extremely unlikely in Phoenix, LOL. I just love what great decor they are at the holidays. May I put that photo in the Inspiration Album I've compiled for sharing?
I also want to learn make beautiful bows like that, WOW.

As for the bows, I worked for a florist when I was younger and that's where I learned to do them. That skill has been incredibly handy - except when all your friends & family want you to do their bows... :)

Dawn, gorgeous pics! You have so many pretty things and a lovely home. That little one is just a doll, so cute! I can tell you are a "bunny" person too like so many of us on here! Could you share with us how many yards of ribbon you use for a big bow like that? I always think mine look too "skimmpy" and I usually use about three yards. Being able to make such nice full bows is a real talent--and I can see why your friends and family would want you to do them. ;o) Luvs

Luvs, thank you and yes, I'm definitely a bunny person. Not exactly sure how many yards of ribbon I used but I'm guessing around 5. That's why I loved that HUGE bolt of ribbon that I found at HL - it was 100ft.

Thanks, Dawn, I found the ribbon. I wanted a red and white ribbon for my swags out front but did not see this ribbon at Hobby Lobby. I found a red with gold edges that just did not work well at night. Anyway, the ribbon was available at 50% off today (was $19.95, now $9.95) for 100 feet. Apparently it is very popular because I only found 2 rolls. Thanks again, will post pics as soon as I finish making the bows.

B, I'm glad that you found some ribbon. It goes really fast at HL. That's what I pd for mine too.

I finished another sled last night. HL had all of their swags and candle rings 50% and so I bought a long one that's supposed to hold a candle in the middle, but you can't tell once it's wired on and the ribbon is in place. I used the same striped ribbon on it too and I have it propped up beside my bed. DH just rolls his eyes every time that he comes home!! I just love this time of year and making new things.

OMGosh Dawn, They are awesome. My first thought was she must be a floral designer. Then I read that you worked at a flower shop. I'm also a floral designer. You do really great work. I also looked at your other photo's and OH my, your place is just gorgeous. Oh, Please share more pics with us.

Cheri, that's awesome that you are a floral designer. I would love to work in a shop again. My real dream would be to have my own little quaint shop somewhere and do what I love. It's just so hard nowadays for small businesses to survive. I also think that if I did it for a living, it wouldn't be so enjoyable?

Jenn, that is my truly my passion - taking old things and giving them new life again. To me, part of the fun is the "treasure hunt" itself. I love, love going to yard/garage sales and flea markets. The thrill is that you never know what you are going to find! I also love to find those old hanging mailboxes and do things with them - they are just hard to find...

Dawn, you are my type of girlfriend. I love old stuff too, and my dream is like yours - to have a quaint little shop - but like you said, it is very difficult for small shops to survive these days. I have had a gift shop in the past and just when things were going good, the DOT came in and widen the road which came right across the little country house I was renting. Was really sad to let it go because I sold not only what I painted and made but also older things that had been decorated, along with new things. Women loved coming to the shop even just to sit around and talk. The men loved the swing on the front porch. Heck, even when the shop was closed my friends would show up and we would sit in the rocker and swing, drink sweet tea and talk. Life was good (but a lot of work).

Paintingfool, OMG that sounds EXACTLY what my dream consists of!!! A girl after my own heart!! The country house, the rocking chair front porch, old things... That's such a shame!! I wish that we lived closer, because we'd definitely be hanging out and looking for old things and making things. Unfortunately, none of my friends share my same passions. Maybe I need some new friends!! Just kidding....

I've always wished that I could paint. I just don't have it in that area of my brain... I would love to see some of the things that you've done.
