Win7 Internet Explorer question

For IE on XP and Vista, when you wanted to enlarge the size of IE screen and have it remain the same, you would click and drag the sides and bottom to where you wanted it, then using the menu bar at the top select File, then exit. When you open up IE the next time, the page should stay expanded to where you left it. Got this Win7 laptop today and it doesnt stick like it did on the other two OS.

Doing something wrong?????

No you are doing nothing wrong Gene. I read an article somewhere that MS had deliberately set it that way, crazy in my mind. I seem to have dragged mine out enough times that it has quit fighting with me and I had not realised it till you posted the question.

When I visit others I see they leave it that way, seems pointless to have a 22 inch monitor to view 16 inch screens.

I just answered the question as it was asked, which as stated seemed to have nothing to do with either IE 11 or Outlook mail. Don't know what other kind of answer you were hoping to get. "Shutting down" the computer certainly means that no virus/malware can get in or out...so your computer is safe. That's what you asked.

mikie: can't say I understand the ghack... site well. It says to determine if my IE settings are already safely set in 'advanced' security mode by going thru Tools, Options, Advanced, and then down somewhere in the Security area to look or do something that is not clearly defined. I see that there is a check box for Allowing some 64 bit security setting that is checked in the ghack picture. It is not further described and it is not the highlighted item in that list. In my IE 11, that box is not checked, but by going more directly thru Tools, Security, I can see that 'advanced security' is selected. I suppose that 64 bit box might need to be checked, but it appears to be allowing more rather than less access and that seems like a weakness rather than an improvement. So, I don't know what I am supposed to do here. And it seems odd that a supposed huge hole that requires massive Microsoft scrambling can be fixed by checking a box or not!!! The ghack site then goes on about something called Enhanced Mitigated Experience Toolkit. It doesn't tell how to get it safely and also implies it is not needed if my security is set appropriately. Gee Thanks. Finally, it comments on Flash. I have already upgraded but I would like to point out that the Adobe terminology and others as well tend to suggest that it is an update rather than a newly named version. It seems odd that what seems like a patch, is a new version; but whatever, I guess.

Hi everyone, This is very informative and from what I've read, it said nothing about removing IE7 and it makes sense to me that if you would remove IE7 and then put in IE8 and you didn't like it you wouldn't be able to go back to IE7 because you removed it. Hi Owbist, Do you have an external drive or second internal drive to which you create backups of your computer? If so the answer is quite simple methinks. Backup the whole computer. Install IE8 and test it. If it fails miserably, which it probably will not, then you can restore the backup and carry on as you were. If your version of IE8 is from yesteryear then use the link below and grab the latest version. Thank you for that information and thank you for the link to the download. I was thinking if the old wasn't good now, then I wouldn't want to download that one and start with a new one. Your link will be very helpful. No I don't have an external hard drive, I've looked them up but, didn't know which one was the best one to get or how large of a one I would need. I have flash drives but I don't think you could use one of those to backup a whole computer. raven, Thanks also for the xmarks link I will save that link in case I want to use that one. My problem would be trying to use it once I download it. Yes, by all means use a current link to the upgrade. DA Thank you I will do that.

I had this same problem..for the life of me I can't remember what I found to fix it...I know one thing I did,,, I right clicked on the IE shortcut...then on Internet Explorer..properties.. and then clicked on Maximize on Run...

Looked like it was going to work, but didnt. Settings are still on maximized but page is opening slightly smaller.
Any other tricks out there?

this is the trick I have read that seems to work best.

Open a webpage. Stretch it out to fullsize. Don't use maximize.
Choose any link on that webpage and right-click> open in a new window.
Stretch that second window out to the desired size- don't use maximize.
Close the first IE window. Then close that second resized window.

I think I remembered what I did a week ago with IE8...I went to the same box where I had clicked on Maximize and in the Target slot I typed in "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"...... I found it by Googling and thought I had saved the site,,,but nope... anyway.. I followed the instructions and haven't had any problem at all since..
