Remove Conduit/Brothers FT search engine?

When I open IE, the Brothers FT search page comes up even though I've attempted to make google my default search engine. I don't know how conduit.com and Brothers search engine got on my computer but I cannot find a way to delete them or stop them from appearing. In IE they do not appear in control panel-programs, so I can't find them to remove them. Help please.

I really would need an answer before I make any suggestions.

IE is pretty easy usually to set the Start Page.
Go to Google, then click the gear icon and open Internet Options.. push the button under where it says Home Page 'Use Current'

Hi pawneepapa, That bent hammer surprises me. My hammers are all straight, and they have been through a lot of use. Something strange must have gotten into the chamber to bend that hammer like that. My leading corners are rounded and I should rotate the hammers, but they are all straight. You can avoid having a load of stuff set up and cause a belt smoke at the next startup by letting the chamber clear out pretty good each time before you shut the machine down. I learned the hard way not to operate my machine at night. One evening I was trying to finish a pile of stuff I was shredding for a new a compost pile and dusk became dark and I could still see to feed my "Mighty Mac", so I continued chucking stuff into the feed hopper. Then, all of a sudden there was a loud noise, a terrible clatter, and fiery sparks and light coming out the holes in my screen and out the feed hopper as well. I reflexively killed the engine and let it coast to stop. I made sure there were no fires in my product or the chamber, and waited until next morning to survey the damage and figure out what went wrong. I had to drop the screen to empty the chamber, and I found a great big rusty piece of scrap metal that had been marked up pretty good. I was afraid that serious damage had been done, considering all the sparks and fire that had spewed from my machine, so I cleaned out the chamber and inspected the interior. There were some scratches and marks on the interior of the chamber, but I couldn't see any hammer damage or rotor damage, so I closed up the screen and did a short trial run and everything seemed fine. I had been sweeping up old leaves, rotten twigs, and deadfall from the local forest floor and apparently that old piece of metal, possibly a bolt, was mixed in with that. On another twilight feeding occasion, a lemon-sized granite rock got in the chamber, causing a horrible noise and a quick shutdown. In a sense, that was worse than the bolt, because the swinging hammers did a pretty good job of breaking up the granite rock, and the fragments were almost as sharp as glass. I had to discard the product that was contaminated by the broken granite, because I didn't want that sharp stuff in my garden. Incidentally, breaking granite emits a little "fire", but nothing as brilliant as the steel bolt. That was a real fireworks show. Hopefully I learned my lesson about not feeding my MacKissic in low light conditions. I still occasionally disintegrate a little rock while shredding, but limestone type rocks break up with no sharp edges or serious damage to the machine. I have heard that someone put oyster shells through a MacKissic hammermill to produce a product for his poultry flock, with the only ill effect being a deafening noise. But I have to say, your bent hammer makes me wonder if someone didn't accidentally drop some kind of steel tool in your machine while it was running. Or start it up with a tool in the chamber. Anyhow, if it is working, don't fix it. You might straighten the hammer when you do flip the hammers at some later time. Did you get the manual for your machine? You are supposed to grease the main bearing fairly often -- every ten hours of use if I remember correctly. There should be a zerk that greases the main bearing. ZM

"T" for Electrical Conduit If you want to make a longer/wider electrical conduit trellis (eg 10 feet wide) then you may want to use a "T" to connect the top bars of electrical conduit. You would need the following parts (I bought at Home Depot): 1) Conduit Body "condulets" Part #: E121488 1/2" T 2) Halex EMT 1/2" "Metallic Set Screw Connector" Halex Part#: 26270 I didn't think a "T" was available for 1/2" electrical conduit, but after spending an hour in Home Depot's electrical department I found the above parts work great.

Freshman, You asked if I saw the Whirlpool Latitude (their new ~28 cu ft French-door refrigerator). Sorry it's taking me so long to respond, but construction to repair flood damage here has kept me busy. Yes, I did look at the Latitude on a couple of occasions. I think it will be strong competition for the Samsung, containing most of the same features. The Latitude does offer a superior ice maker that is in the door and the bin is easily removable. The display has more info than the Samsung, such as the TOD, and the water dispenser is adjustable, so you can fill large vessels. What it is missing is the twin-cooling, but I haven't been convinced that's important. I dismissed the Whirlpool for my application solely because of esthetic design considerations. My kitchen and family room are one open space, and the fridge dominates, so getting the prettiest "monster" is very important. I need a black refrigerator (only because SS have grey sides -- anyone know of a SS with black sides?), and the Whirlpool black is a tinny looking metal vs the shine of the Samsung. I also am not wild about the design of the handles, but I could live with them if the finish suited me. I was told that KA will probably introduce a similar FD in about a year after the bugs have been worked out of the Latitude. I would expect the KA to have a bit more "polished" look. I think the Latitude would be a nice addition to many kitchens, it just doesn't seem to fit mine. I hope this helps. Ellencr

ok, this is an area where I actually know something! I sold and spec'ed hardwood for a custom shop before my mommy-life. The information you are getting here is correct. Engineered floors will give you 1-2 refinishings ON A PERFECT SUBFLOOR. One of the issues that sometimes arises if there are inconsistanies in the height of your subfloor. Because there is thinner wood wearlayer (before you get to the engineered wood) there is the chance that you can damage the floor irreparably when you sand it. Now I only saw this saw this happen twice, once on a loft job and once in an older home. The loft was more subtle as it was over concrete, the old house more obvious as they were DIYers and picked engineered flooring to try to negate their irregular subfloor (they neglected to tell us that that was why they chose engineered, we would have talked them out of it had we seen the floor first) Neither of their claims to the manufacturer were fully settled because both times they did not follow the guidelines for floor prep. The loft job was also a materials only job for us with their GC laying the floors but he insisted he knew what he was doing. A good engineered floor will not be cheaper than most of your nail down options because the production costs are higher. Now having said that, GOOD engineered floors certainly have their place in places where you can't put traditional hardwood due to height restrictions or concrete subfloors. My boss had a great engineered floor in his basement and it survived a flood remarkably well (it was ash, Kahrs brand out of Scandinavia and one of the beefier engineered floors and one of the pioneers) My Grandmother also had a Kahrs floor in her ground suite condo and she LOVED it and I was impressed by the milling. I'm considering it for our basement because it's warmer and less echo-y than laminate There has been a lot of 2nd rate engineered flooring coming out of China and being labeled for all sorts of different companies. You should be able to tell an engineered sample because the layers are sandwiched together and the tongue will be a different wood than the top (showing) layer. Distressed finishes are usually more expensive because of the extra step in manufacturing to make it distressed. That is different than just getting a lower grade of hardwood like a rustic or tavern grade (in solid hardwood). Those grades have more character but they often don't carry a warranty and generally have a higher waste percentage. Another thing to think about---if you ever have to replace part of the floor, you will always be able to replicate 3/4" thick hardwood but engineered floors are more like tile, they change and get discontinued over the years. You could go pre-finished, save the hassle of site finishing but with the thicker wear-layer a 3/4" nail down floor offers. Only you will know if you can handle beveling or not. The changes in milling the last 10 years are huge. The bevel in your better milled wood is tiny. I like Canadian mills, Model or Mirage for pre-finished. Remember that if you ever re-finish, the bevel will disappear and you will, essentially have a site finished floor. One benefit that many people don't know about? With a prefinished tongue and grooved floor you can have a good installer cut out a single board (or more) from your floor if it gets damaged which is why we did a fair bit of pre-finished in new homes since inevitably we would get call-backs at move in to repair trade damage (@#$%^ plumbers and their big wrenches!). Prefinished hardwood deals the best with shinkage and expansion issues because the finish is on individual boards. Site finished floors are more labor intensive but the materials are cheaper (apples to apples). They are what many people consider the gold standard however there are more steps and you don't always know how it's going to look until it's done. There is more chance of finish contamination and trade damage during the rest of the building process. We refinished 100 year old floors. I loved the idea that there wasn't 4 generations of carpet and crap in the landfill. Definitely a forever floor and it can usually be re-sanded for all but the very worst water damage (think entire house under water for a few days) If you are going with a wide plank, keep in mind your species and humidity level (and your ability to keep humidity stable). The wider the plank (with 3/4" thick flooring), the more obvious shrinking and expanding will be. If you take a 2" wide board and it shrinks 2%, it isn't very noticeable. If you take a 6" wide board and it shrinks 2% the gaping will be more noticeable and in the case of a site finished floor *could* pull your finish apart. You'll need to find a flooring contractor in your area with lots of experience. Most of the best hardwood shops ONLY do hardwood. Beware of carpet shops and many of the big box stores in many instances. Make sure they are accredited with the NWFA (national wood flooring association) http://www.nwfa.org/member/ good luck!

is this the same computer you started the new post about if so you need to follow the instructions given here and post results and it's always better to have only one post going so we are not confusing things.
Also do the scans mentioned on the other thread
Things like the problem you have here don't just go away they are deeply embedded in the system. .

Sorry for the delay Zep. I was in bed all day yesterday with the flu. I'm feeling a bit better today and will attempt to do this. Right now I can't get into the computer at all but I'll keep trying (see my other thread: yes raven, same computer).

Unfortunately I've now tried repeatedly and am unable to start the computer past the black screen with flashing cursor. Once the message Operating System Not Found came up. Othertimes there's no message. I did manage to get to a PhoenixBios diagnostic page by pressing one of the F buttons (others don't do anything but beep at me) and ran a comprehensive hard drive diagnostic. It passed. Any ideas?

Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
Click Delete.
Everything that was found will be deleted.
Your computer will reboot
Please post the contents of that logfile after the reboot with your next reply so we can see the bad things are gone

Here, Joe. Unfortunately I don't think it worked, however. When it rebooted I got the same black screen with flashing cursor. Had to do cnt-alt-del several times (no result), then turned the computer off for a few minutes. Only then did I get a full boot.

I also ran Microsoft Security again this morning, and it did pick a suspicious item: exploit: java/toniper. It was fixed.

Any other ideas?

That log you just posted shows you did a search Option [Search] we want to hit delete, I also understand you're having other difficulties too, so do the best you can.

Try it again, right click on the adwCleaner Icon, choose "run as administrator," when adwCleaner opens choose Delete your computer should automatically reboot and a log will pop up, post that if you can, so we can see the deletions were made.

Yes, I'm still having the same problem--black screen with flashing cursor on most start ups. It appears it can't find the operating system. This morning by pressing one of the F buttons immediately on start up I got a page that asked me to choose the operating system (just Vista was there) and once I did that it started normally. However, most times pressing the F buttons doesn't do anything.

Oh wow! I think I fixed it! At startup I got into F9, the boot order, and saw that the notebook harddrive was the third one down--below DVD drive and floppy CD! Why that was true, I have NO idea--I certainly have never gone into that page before. Anyway, I moved notebook hard drive to the top and it now seems to be starting just fine. Let's hope that was it.
Thanks so much for a adware--that program will come in very handy in the future and it finally removed all that nasty BrotherSoft stuff.

I'd rather not have you use adwcleaner un -less you're being helped, it can present false positives. Please double click it and choose "Uninstall"

agree that tool really is supposed to be used with the guidance of a trained support forum specialist.

LzD is a support forum with such trained specialist, they will lead you through using several scans that will help determine what is causing the problems and aid in full removal of infections.
