is a soap dish for the tub outdated?
Comments (10)Hey Folks, That was me that mentioned the soap dish being dated. It was tongue in cheek, I really am not a slave to what is and what isn't dated! LOL But, in my defense, I was referring to the chrome soap dish recessed into the bath wall directly in line of fire of the shower head, where in one kid's long hot shower, the entire bar of soap can disintegrate! You know, the one that matches the toilet roll holder! (I still have said TR holder in the last remaining non-renoed BR) I actually was voicing one of my pet peeves, and it was more about the location of said soap dish. Though, really, if I was spending thousands of dollars on a new BR I would never put one of those metal recessed soap dishes in there, regardless of how many bars of soap I may use! I personally have hung shower baskets over the shower head, I thought that's where everybody put them! There's a super duper model on sale right now in my Costco! But, my Basement Br has a 4 foot long shelf, and I will never go back... my new Master BR will prob have 2 narrow but tall niches (ie 2 shelves) on shower head wall. (only interior wall in shower)....See MoreOne piece shower/tub for new house HELP!!
Comments (7)There are lots of choices if you have a 32" deep space for the bathtub/shower. BTW, for a 32" fixture you may need an inch or two more for installation because most models have a nailing flange - pay attention to the rough-in size... I'm about to replace a cast iron tub with a shower/tub combo and have just done some shopping around and online research, there's one list of tub/shower manufacturer online at: http://www.askthebuilder.com/B65_Acrylic_And_Fiberglass_Shower_Manufacturers.shtml The one piece tubs look great but you do need to measure your doors carefully as well as make sure there's room to maneuver with such a large object. The units that have 2 or more pieces are much easier to move. Check the installation instuctions as some need to be bolted together and this can be tricky in tight quarters. If you are going to be using the tub, smart to be thinking about its size. One dimention that matters is the distance between the drain and the *bottom* of the overflow which will be the maximum depth of water that the tub will take. Easy to get that measurement in a store or showroom otherwise you have to hunt for that spec in the manufacterer's literature. In looking over the brands available locally (Aqua-Glass, Lasco, Sterling) one Sterling model, the Ensemble, has a noticably deeper tub but I don't have space for it. Floor to the tub ledge is 18" and the drain to overflow distance is 13 3/4" which sounds like it makes for a good bath......See MoreWhite 'coating' on tub when using Charlies Soap?
Comments (10)Well it could be varying things causing the problem depending on water type, how long you have been using Charlie's, etc. FWIW I'll chime in since more than one person seems to have this problem. Most of them are no brainers so not trying to insult anyone, just trying to help. I know from experience that frustration with a problem can cause you to over look something. 1) Already mentioned, hard water. Depending on the hardness of your water the Charlies may not be enough to cut through it. An added water softener may be required. One real easy way to tell if you have hard water is, look in your bathroom. Do you get water spots frequently that are cloudy and they accumulate fast? Do you have whitish stuff on your faucets? If you answered yes to either of these you most likely have hard water. To what degree, you will have to check with your municipality if you are on city water. If you have well water..it is most likely hard. 2) If you haven't been using Charlie's for that long, you may be experiencing built up detergents and fabrics softeners getting loosened and ending up distributed around the machine from either your clothing or the machine itself. 3) If you have soft water and you have no build up, you may be using too much of the Charlie's. It is extremely concentrated and a little goes a long way. If none of these help, call Charlie's Soap and explain the problem. They may know some technical answer that isn't common. Once again, this is not meant to insult anyones intelligence. Just trying to help, so please no one take any offense....See MoreI need Help with an old Moen tub and soap dish as one
Comments (4)I know you may have already handled your project but I thought I would post the steps involved here. It's an older version of the Moenique model. Pry out the circular chrome cover on the knob. Unscrew the center screw. Remove the knob and pull off the chrome tube cover with squared/keyed ridge. Unscrew the retaining screw located beneath the knob on the square chrome inset that is against the wall and inside the handle/soapdish fixture. Pry out the chrome inset. Underneath, you will find 4 screws that are holding the rest of the handle/soapdish/faucet fixture. To remove the cartridge: Pull out the retaining pin, it's a brass horseshoe shaped cotter at the top of the pipe. Now the cartridge can be removed. In my case, only the core came out and I had to drill out the shell of the cartridge. It takes a 1225 Moen cartridge. its an older version of the Moenique design....See Morejerseygirl_1
