Well, you've already heard about freezer paper and meat wrapping paper, so, won't waste time on that. Cardboard, eh, I tend to stick with shredded paper, like business letters, or, photocopy paper, less ink, per page, and its easy to obtain. Beside having our own paper shredder, my wife could bring home bunches of it from her work. best of all no cost, and it seemed to appeal to my worm's, so, why re-invent the wheel, so to speak........ Tempertures, max, for me was 75 degrees, over 85 degrees they will crawl out of the compost mix, for cooling. Below 50 degrees, they stopped moving around much, and would retreat to the center, of the mix (compost), thus a range of 65-75, seemed to work the best for me. Best rule of thumb, the compost temperture will be 10-15 degrees higher, than the surrounding temperture. I was three years, into the indoor worm bins, before that, I consentrated on building my earthworm count, outside. Coffee grounds, along with the filter paper, seems to be OK. Tea bags, were less of a success. Egg shells, unless well crushed, didn't go over very well, either. Citrus, tomato scraps, onions, peppers, and such, weren't well accepted, at least by my guy's. Breads, contain yeast, and gets quite hot, during the breakdown period, plus some molding going on, as well. Spritzing the top every other day, with water, is good. But, even some tap water, is too hard, or smelly, sulfer content is too high. Rain water, is just fine, its for the most part, soft water, and its free. If, you live right next to a coal fired electric plant, then you might avoid that too. Sounds rather picky, but, getting a good grade of worm castings, is the goal, and that only happens, when the worm's are happy, and productive. No meat products, is another good rule, or, animal manure, unless you don't mind smell. Basic rules are simple, good air flow, controled amounts of water, and fair temperatures. I always stayed with a mixture of greens, coffe grounds, shredded paper, and then, leave them alone, as much as possible. Depending on how much you want to produce, 2 lbs of worm's, would be the minimum, to start. Avoid over expectations, after 45-60 days, my 2 lbs of worms, were just really getting going, its not a quick process. Rule of thumb, is a doubling of worm population, every six months. My 2 lbs of worm's, were barely eating a half, to three quarters of a pound of food a day, and this is assuming everything is at optimum levels, right food, right temps, and moisture content. You will, most likely make a mistake, or two, I think everyone does, at some point. After last year, being so ill, I said goodbye to them and had my son release my bin worm's, outside into my raised garden beds. No-sense everyone suffering. I couldn't walk without falling on my butt, spent most of my time indoors, in bed, or, in my chair. Last year, was my "lost summer" year, my room was my domain, and the air conditioner, my best friend. Crutches aren't worth a crap, for getting around. Yes, some improvement now, but, it remains to be seen what this year will bring. Hope I haven't made too many spelling, or, typo's here, my eyebulbs are burning out, as well. I want to tell you....I have a LARGE hard drive...the guys in the computer store were laughing "at" me...not "with" me about what I ordered. But..I can take it...the first computer I had (this is my second) the kid I bought it from said I would only need a 20 gig hardricve and 64 RAM...and no one needed a CD burner. I had never bought a computer before and took his word for what I needed. My son to this day says I over paid (bought locally) and I probably did. But...I didn't have a bit of trouble with that computer and it was still running smoothly when I bought this one....it just wasn't "enough" for what I wanted to do. I had added more RAM, but it was also Windows 98 (which I loved) and things were passing me by. It doesn't bother me a bit to be laughed "at" in this case (I bought locally again and they remember me in there...the first store closed) :o) He says I have enough memory to last the rest of my life...we'll see that's what the first kid said....

Thanks Owbist. I have Norton 2007 and below are what I assume were installed, according to Belarc. I keep the definitions up to date- I'm not sure it is done automatically like it was with Norton 2004. It seems to check incoming email because once in a while a notice will let me know that something was deleted because it had a virus. A full scan is done once a week and I occasionally scan individual things that might be suspect. So far, the weekly scan has caught a tracking cookie or two. I also use ad-aware. I will do the online scans and see what they come up with. One thing I don't understand is why the files showed up in the recycle bin in the first place. Something must have told them to go there. elizawhyza, you ask an important question about working with a contractor in putting in a largely recycled kitchen. Many people who artfully incorporate old things into their homes are seasoned DIY'ers, but I needed grown ups to get things in properly. My contractor is not a firm. He is a recovering economist who has an affinity for old houses and likes to see them respected. His own skills are excellent, and he puts together work crews for each job he undertakes, whether it's a bathroom or a whole house. I cannot imagine taking on this house with a different kind of contracting firm. Indeed, he looked at all the houses I was considering and outline what work would be entailed in for each of them. I have worked with him on several less extensive projects over the years, and I consider the trade-offs -- basically I had to start with a very rough ballpark estimate of what his work would cost and I was responsible for contracting with the electrical, HVAC, window, and floor people, but I knew that I would get careful work on the house -- more than reasonable. By the time we got to the kitchen, he and his crew has turned this into this which entailed jacking up the roof, replicating a lost corbel, and patching the original cypress clapboards with newly milled ones. In that context, shimming the kitchen cabinets vertically as well as laterally was not a big deal. On your other question, I bought the cabinets from my local craigslist, after checking out what was available almost daily for several months. I talked to the owner, drove out to look at the cabinets, paid him for them, and then hired three guys and a truck to pick them up and bring them into the city. The distance was about 15 miles and the moving cost a couple hundred dollars. There are also a couple of local non-profit house part recycling places that occasionally have nice cabinets, but that works best if you are in a position to check them daily, which I am not. The non-local sources for good used cabinets are ebay (which tends to have kitchen center displays that are listed for "local pick-up") and and Green Demolitions. The latter carries some very up-market used kitchen from the NYC area. They will email you all kinds of pictures to show the condition of what you might be buying, and they can help customers arrange shipping. I have never actually purchased from them, but I would certainly consider it. I look forward to seeing your cabinets.
