OK so we assume you have downloaded and saved the Avast program. Remove the internet connection temporarily. Right click on the AVG icon near the clock click Exit and follow any instructions to complete the stopping of AVG Right click on Start click Explore then use the left side only at first click plus sign beside C:\... and the menu drops underneath click the plus sign beside Program files and it drops again click the Grisoft folder to highlight it Now move to the right side of your screen and click on all the items to highlight them right click in the highlighted area click Delete Back to the left side right click on Grisoft to highlight right click on highlighted name click Delete AVG program is now removed but the registry entries are still present so you might consider running Crap Cleaner before going on. They can be left as they cannot be used once the underlying program is removed Install Avast, reconnect to the internet and look for updated definitions and register the Avast program and you should be good to go.

It appears that it is gone. I used the Remover instructions you gave me RC on the Google home page and never saw AVG when I clicked on the the AVG toolbar options/advance. Nor did I see it in IE. The only option for search providers was Google listed as default/enabled/not available. I saw it in Firefox and removed it. I have only uploaded that program a few months back but never used it. I removed the Google toolbar on the culprit Google home page that was with the AVG toolbar and the AVG disappeared. Then I brought back Google. I rebooted and it is still gone and not listed as a program.I am holding my breath as it is a backward way of following the directions though I tried carefully to do that. grandms.Your thought about the company called "On call 25/8" has been running through my mind since they came out and created a pw to get into Windows last week. They had my computer a couple of months ago when I couldn't find a graphic device and did a thorough look. There was something wrong about the guys paying forward pitch that bothered me. For $750 I could get so many hours of future help in my home. He also would take care of installing my new router and Apple apps. OK, I'm using W/98 and trying to uninstall AVG 7. -something. Went to Add/Remove programs and clicked on remove. It tried, but failed and gave me the following: error:action failed for file setup.exe: creating backup... action denied (their dots, I'm not leaving anything out) Under details it says [5]% DESTINATIONS%=C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\setup.exec.install_backup",%SOURCE%="C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\setup.exec" Now what do I do? I have more than enough memory for Avast to run even with AVG left in place but inactive--is there a way to disable AVG without removing it? Thanks, J

ok AVG is an antivirus program unless you are talking specifically about the AVG program that was for spyware?? you need to clarify please. If AVG antivirus you do not want to get rid of your only antivirus program. I have personally quit using AdAware, it used to be a super good program but in my opinion there are others that have now surpassed it and yes Superantispyware is the main one. I use it regularly, I also keep Spywareblaster SpywareBlaster 4.1 on my system and update it weekly and enable all the protection. I do the superantispyware update and scan weekly also. Plus I have my dedicated antivirus program that is always active. It does not hurt anything to have the programs you mentioned all on your pc, you do not have to delete them but if you want to save room and are not using something then yes you can. You do have a specific antivirus program that is running though right?
