win xp scrolling

I have just started using win xp pro for the first time( always have used 98 se) and will have lots of questions for sure. The first is that the web pages will not quite scrolling on their own, both up and down, most annoying, and I am sure easy to correct if one knows how. I cannot figure it out. Thanks

Chris

Probably your mouse, try just pressing on your scroll wheel and see if that improves control.

Think maybe your concern is with 'Standby or Hibernate' so the usb port stays alive and Standby or Hibernate does not activate witch might turn off the voltage/current to the usb port. It might be the usb ports themselfs can be set to never sleep in Device Manager. Then standby could still activate. Lots of different 'sleep' states depending on motherboard design. Try a hard reboot. Are you getting anything on the screen or is it operating normally with no keyboard function

usually what has been said is that you can shut everything but explorer and systray. The reason many times it tells you to install in safe mode is because in safe mode all those "running Processes" are not yet running like they are in normal start up mode so therefore you do not have to do all the shut down of the running stuff. I generally just make sure there are no obvious programs running, I shut my browsers, close all email applications, if it says to shut down specific programs I do that, if it says disconnect from internet I do that. The rest I leave alone. I would guess everyone has their own method.

Kay, is the one you have on your computer the same as the link I am attaching?? If so, it is free, and you shouldnt have to pay anything. If you have another one, with that name, then good idea to delete it, and use this one. I have the IObit on here, and it is a good program. I do agree with owbist that scanning twice a day is definitely overkill. Once a week, as regular maintenance should be enough, unless you are having an actual problem. Have you looked in control panel at the mouse settings ? There may be a setting to enable/disable autoscroll.
Plus there may be a setting to scroll 3 or so lines at a time or a check box to scroll full page in the same window.

Maybe just update the mouse driver. Or uninstall/reinstall the mouse.
