Close your browsers before you use the control panels add/remove programs to uninstall Java that's listed there.. It might say Oracle Java. It will remove it from the browsers and the main program from your folders. Unfortunetly java uninstall does leave some junk but generally its no harm. Don't worry about javaScript. That's a different thing. If you want.. there is a tiny program called JavaRa that will additionally remove some junk... Actually it is a computer that has everything erased including the OS. What is? The old one or the one you wish to use? If this wiped computer is the one you wish to reinstall on then is it a known brand computer or a local build? If it is a known brand like HP, Compaq or some other brand it should have a sticker on the side of the tower with the 25 digit activation code. If it has that then you can use this other XP CD you have to install your operating system. HOWEVER be sure to enter the 25 digit code from the side of the tower and not use the one with the CD. That way the CD is still available for use elsewhere should you need to do so at any time. As this computer has been wiped you will need to scour the internet to find drivers for the neywork, sound and all other periphrals. Does this computer have a make and model number?

usually what has been said is that you can shut everything but explorer and systray. The reason many times it tells you to install in safe mode is because in safe mode all those "running Processes" are not yet running like they are in normal start up mode so therefore you do not have to do all the shut down of the running stuff. I generally just make sure there are no obvious programs running, I shut my browsers, close all email applications, if it says to shut down specific programs I do that, if it says disconnect from internet I do that. The rest I leave alone. I would guess everyone has their own method.

Here is a screenshot where I am adding a photo to an Amazon listing. As you can see there are a ton of numbered photos and I really need the view to be thumbnail to select the correct photo. I do use the little menu to change to thumbnail and it does change but it won't stick. When I go to upload the next picture two minutes later I have to change it again and every time. When I open the same folder from My Documents it shows in thumbnail every time. I ran the Fixit again and rebooted and I downloaded and installed the registry fix too.
