Win XP concern

I have Win XP and IE. I have downloaded the program "Advanced SystemCare Free. I run it twice per day and tonight a popup announced that I had 355 system errors and 156 unoptimized settings. In order to 'repair problems', I am required to purchase the program.

Do I need to do anything about this? Thanks for your advice.

So simply remove the program from your computer. It is touted as a free program even at Majorgeeks and Tucows yet as you have found out it is not free.

What are you trying to achieve anyway? There are many excellent free programs people here can and will recommend if you tell them what you want to do. Add perhaps what you already have installed by way of safety programs. Scanning twice daily is total overkill.

I am not even sure if OneCare is even supported by Microsoft anymore.

Close your browsers before you use the control panels add/remove programs to uninstall Java that's listed there.. It might say Oracle Java. It will remove it from the browsers and the main program from your folders. Unfortunetly java uninstall does leave some junk but generally its no harm. Don't worry about javaScript. That's a different thing. If you want.. there is a tiny program called JavaRa that will additionally remove some junk... Actually it is a computer that has everything erased including the OS. What is? The old one or the one you wish to use? If this wiped computer is the one you wish to reinstall on then is it a known brand computer or a local build? If it is a known brand like HP, Compaq or some other brand it should have a sticker on the side of the tower with the 25 digit activation code. If it has that then you can use this other XP CD you have to install your operating system. HOWEVER be sure to enter the 25 digit code from the side of the tower and not use the one with the CD. That way the CD is still available for use elsewhere should you need to do so at any time. As this computer has been wiped you will need to scour the internet to find drivers for the neywork, sound and all other periphrals. Does this computer have a make and model number?

My mistake.

Again, I am guilty of speed reading and replying.

You said Advanced System Care (IObit) and I was thinking OneCare. 8(

The link that I provided is Microsoft's new Full security system and it is free .. All of the time .. (for now) LOL

Kay, is the one you have on your computer the same as the link I am attaching?? If so, it is free, and you shouldnt have to pay anything. If you have another one, with that name, then good idea to delete it, and use this one. I have the IObit on here, and it is a good program.

I do agree with owbist that scanning twice a day is definitely overkill. Once a week, as regular maintenance should be enough, unless you are having an actual problem.
