I shall remove some of what you have mentioned. I did install Chrome so that is probably why that is shown there. Mikie, I shall read your link after this send. I was wondering if more memory could be added to that little gem to give it a boost? Thanks. YAY PB is working so I can post this graphic. That's happened to me before, I'd say it's normal to expect from time to time. Also, the opposite has happened to me before. In the past week, my Firefox install has been misbehaving. I triggered a small number update and that seems to have fixed the problem. I'd say you're doing the right thing. When one browser doesn't work, try the other. When there's a problem, check to see if there's an update. It's just like driving. When you think you aren't where you want to be, retrace your steps backward and try it again. Or try something else. Sometimes with software it's necessary to back up all the way to an uninstall and then reinstall. You try and see what works for you.

when you go to the windows update site choose custom and let it scan your pc, then do ONLY the ones it lists as critical updates, those that are not critical are optional and can be left alone. but you do want to do any critical updates. However as zep said if you have IE6 on your pc and you do not want to upgrade to IE7 then do not choose that one. BUT if you see critical updates that are for IE you do need to get those because whether you use IE or not if there is a security vulnerability that they put a patch out for if you do not patch that then just having the vulnerability on your pc could put you at risk. Anytime you have programs on your pc that you see security updates for you need to get those even if you never use the program, as long as it is on your pc and has a hole in it then there are those out there that can use that hole to get to you, many times from visiting a compromised website where a script was written to find and use that hole. The flash is a perfect example, that clickjacking which I had posted about a while ago uses a vulnerability in the older flash to install malware on your pc, so keeping the flash updated is pretty critical right now. And with flash you have to do the update to all browsers so if you use firefox and IE you must go get the specific updates for each one and install them. Secunia is a very beneficial tool.

First, thank you all. ravencajun, I especially thank you for your simple explanation of ISO. zep516 - exactly what I needed. I wasn't sure about 32 or 64; but went with 32 and if that hadn't worked would have gone back and gotten the 64. I was able to boot up from the disk; got the c prompt and put in chkdsk /r. It found 2 errors and fixed them. Then I exited, and opened in safe mode. Itried to uninstall the Silverlight, but it has an error in it. I decided not to go to MS to correct it so that I could uninstall it, since the LT was working and I wouldn't be using that program. I went to start/turn off/restart taking out the CD and the LT started up and is working fine. Now I am going to the post about AVG since that is on the LT and I don't want to go on line until I am sure I can without the bad AVG update. Thank you all so much for your patience and explanations!
