I'm interested in any first hand experience comments regarding Lenovo laptops, particularly Essentials G770 series. What's the Good, Bad and ugly?

Have you tried a simple reboot? Is the Volume perhaps muted? If you have checked those items then a system restore might help you. Here is a link that might be useful: System restore guide win 8

What's the model # of the Laptop? Lenovo xxxxxx What's the name of the display adapter? As listed in device manager? We might be able to get from the ATI site since it appears to be an ATI adapter. Have you visited Lenovo site to look for driver? To enter device Manager in XP open the Run box copy this text in bold devmgmt.msc paste it into the run box and click ok. Once in there look under Display adapters and give us the entire name listed. While you're in there right click on it now choose uninstall. Reboot the computer. Windows will reinstall the driver for you. Sometimes this will resolve an issue or 2 but it may not.

They have definitely been known to start fires. The batteries on some brands have had fire problems in the past. I have a really nice little lap table I got a bed bath and beyond. There are foldable legs so it can sit on either side of you. The center part lifts to different angles to hold the laptop at different angles. It has a mouse pad area. It also has an adjustable light on it. It is exactly like the one in the link below. There's storage space under the mouse pad. Here is a link that might be useful: Table

Malware on Lenovo PCs= non-issue for Lenovo PCs This was awhile ago and I think it was adware, not malware. The episode was over about as fast as it happened. The offending code was planted surreptitiously by a software partner, much to Lenovo's shock. It was promptly eliminated from the normal software loads and instructions were made available on how to remove it from machines it had been placed on. Lenovo makes great PCs and other products, have no reluctance to buy them.

Lenovo computers are made in China, they were originally IBM who sold the computer division to the Chinese.

They seem to have a good reputation, I was told the base they are built on is metal rather than plastic used by most making it less likely to break if dropped. That may have changed now of course.

If you look at the link I included, you'll find a lot more specific reviews on Amazon for the particular model you mentioned -- which represent first hand experience -- than you are likely to get here. I also found additional reviews for this model simply by doing a Google search for Lenovo +G770 +review.

Yes - I've read a lot of those reviews which I take with a grain of salt so to speak. What I'm looking for is comments from folks who have owned a Lenovo computer and I have had several email responses from GW viewers.

It would be useful if you posted those emails here in case other people are searching on GW in the future for info on Lenovo computers.
