Best brand of electric/battery window candles?

hi folks,

I'm wondering who has some input on the various brands of electric and/or battery-operated single candlesticks, the type you place in windows during the holidays.

Are they all the same, cheaply made in China, or are there specific brands or stores that offer a better/nicer/more durable selection? Or even any made somewhere other than China?

I have the Bethelehem Lights candles from QVC. They operate by batteries either on a sensor, steady on, or a timer. The timer is SO convenient. You turn them on at the time you want them to come on every day (I have 5:15 p.m.) and then they stay on for eight hours. Then every day after that they come on by themselves and stay on for eight hours. They have an antique brass base, and they came in brushed nickel and regular brass also. They can be raised or lowered according to your window sash.

I got them during Christmas in July of 2010 when they were really cheap, maybe $40.00 for 4, because I have two sets. I put mine in last year on the Sunday aftef Thanksgiving, and one set of batteries lasted until two weeks after New Years. I believe it's 3 C batteries. The light is really bright.

All this being said, I had a set before these from Walgrens for maybe $10.00 for 4, same setup with battery and timer, except they only stayed on 6 hours. I really wanted some that would stay on longer, and were taller, which is why I got the ones from QVC.

Read your manual. It probably has the guidelines best suited for 'your laptops design and its circuitry . Toshiba here was first time ever taken out of the factory box about mid December 2007, so its 1.5 yrs old, I don't know how long it sat on shelf - its battery right now shows a 6% wear level, 44000 mWh design capacity new / currently 41151 mWh at 100% of charge. Probably more than 99 percent of the time its on the AC adapter and runs 24/7. Sleeps after 100 minutes of non use which really doesn't happen every day like I should. I should force sleep for it & then maybe I'd force more normal sleep on me too ;) Battery is under the left palm rest where I feel no heat. It would be rare for me in the things I do to shut down windows before moving the laptop while the on battery. Only have the one ac adapter, meant to buy another for a second location but price always makes me dizzy.

I had the plug-in models with short cords years ago and gave up on them! Running around with all those extension cords and plugging them in every night was a nuisance. But I missed the look. After reading this thread earlier in the week I ordered the battery candles with timer. The online description said on for 8 hours, but the directions in the box say on for only 6 hours. No matter, 5:30 to 11:30 will be good enough I think. Hopefully these will last longer than the old battery ones used to. The suction cups on rings didn't work on my windows as the glass is too far from where the candle sits. I put tape on either side of the base to the window sill. They are heavier than the old style though and sit more stable. I learn so many things reading this site it's unbelievable! No wonder people ask just about anything on here.

Check out Sillites. These are actually outlets that you can place in your windowsill or other small spaces that need an unobtrusive electrical supply. I usually lurk on the Kitchen forum and have seen them suggested for kitchen islands. They can apparently be retrofitted. I haven't tried them myself, but it's an interesting concept!

I found here in MN the cold near a window chills the batteries to the point they do not light the candle blubs. I had to go electric. Something with timers are the way to go!!!

The Plow and Hearth catalog sells high-quality products. I bought my battery-operated Christmas window candles from them years ago and they are still going strong. They have quite a selection and I recommend them.

HI, I am looking for distributor list of palm candles and soy candles near my downtown. Here dealers give these candles in high rate as compared to market prices. So I would like to know the places for buying them directly from retailer.

Hey, just wanted to revive this since I found it on Google when I was looking myself - I ended up going with standard electric window candles, but these really bright LED "filament" candle bulbs that give off a lovely golden glow (2400K, warmer than standard household light of 2700K) and barely even get warm. They're not cheap but I like to keep a candle in my window to cheer up the street and they're nice and bright. Linky.

I also have Bethlehem candles from QVC. I have had mine for years. I really have no problems with them. I like a dark bedroom when I sleep so I have to turn mine off individually. That is my only complaint. I guess i could turn them on earlier in the late day but that seems a waste when it is still light outside. I do like the battery type.

Amazon ran out of the bulb I recommended above!!!!!. I have a couple others I've tried now which I like a lot.

These are NOT battery operated, if that helps... I use plug in ones because they're bright, I don't like messing with batteries, and I put them on a timer for the 6 months between autumn and spring, lol. Seriously though, it makes these dark days brighter!

These are really nice and not as bright as the super bright golden light ones I recommended. If you do NOT want super bright LEDs, in my super geeky opionion.. try these ones: http://amzn.to/1XE2bJX (Satco is always quality) ...

If you do want them a bit bright and in a range of colors (gold tint, clear etc etc) get the 2 watt ones of these..., there is an entire product line of "filament" bulbs that look very classical! The 2200K or any "K" number lower than 2700 will have a warm glow, 2700K will look like normal bulbs. http://amzn.to/1TDbBj1

Personally I'm a little annoyed cause they don't look exactly like my bright ones and I like to have them all standardized, but what are you gonna do, they are inventing more and more LED bulbs every year, including festive ones :p

I don't like LED bulbs. Can you remove the LED bulbs from these window candles and use regular night-light or Christmas-tree bulbs?
