I responded to a post about Swanstone surrounds a few months back, I'm including the link below so you can see all the feedback. While we are happy with ours, we did not install it over tiles, so I don't know how well it will stick in your situation. It will probably not be an inexpensive fix. Someone mentioned $1700 and I think ours cost about the same. (Ours was for a tub/shower and did not go down to the floor or up to the ceiling). If you need to have it reach down to the floor for a shower only, it may cost more depending on the size of your shower. Maybe there is a way to repair the hole and re-grout the rest of the tiles that will work? It might be more cost-effective. I'll leave that for the tile pros to answer!

Thanks--we can get the hole fixed and shower regrouted inexpensively, but we're having a hard time finding matching tiles (the ones I pried off have glue etc. all over the backs which we're having a bear of a time getting off), and these tiles were installed on regular drywall &/or plaster, so I don't relish leaving them in unless it's truly protected (my DR ceiling is suffering!) The Swanstone 32 x 32 glue-in surround is about $400 @Home Depot.

My Swanstone tub/shower surround is pictured in the thread kitchenkrazed posted and we are still really happy with it adn how easy it is to maintain. Our contractor gutted the room (removing all old tile) down to the supports to reinstall new drywall (and greenboard--not sure what name of that is) so the Swanstone kit is installed on to supports based on the installation instructions that came with the kit. I suggest meet with a remodeling contractor for a quote just to remove the tile and install a Swanstone kit that doesn't adhere to old tile.

Swanstone has a communications contact named Jenny Baur who helped me with two big questions -- new color selections and a big delivery issue. She was so helpful that I later emailed the company to commend her customer service.

Why don't you email her with your concerns and questions. I suggest you ask what are the recommended preparation steps for that kit you are considering. Maybe she can email a pdf to you of the installation instructions. And ask if they recommend this for long term quality/moisture control issues.

We are in the middle of a master suite remodel/addition. I, too, thought that an acrylic shower surround would be less expensive and low maintenance. We were also going to use the same stuff for the bathtub surround. We did extensive research at many stores and online. We checked out U.S. Marble which Home Depot carries and is the acrylic you were talking about. It comes in marble and granite patterns. Then we checked out Stone House (Lowe's) same kind of stuff, I just like some of the patterns better. All of the prices were way above our budget, and didn't include installation.
We finally broke down and checked out what tile could offer us. We ended up with porcelain tiles in a wonderful custom pattern, complete with bullnose, shower niche and installation, and was, at least, over $1500.00 cheaper than the acrylic stuff that I was sure that I wanted. Our tile designer guy said that will the new type of grouts, it will be much less upkeep then I thought. It has not been installed yet, but I am confident that we made the best decision for our new look and our budget.

Thanks for the helpful replies--I will contact the gal from Swanstone--I'm sure she'll be able to tell if their surround will work in our situation. I'd just like the security of knowing that it won't leak down into my DR anymore without having to rip out the whole shower.

I'm guessing with the cost of the surround + labor I can probably get it all done for Thanks again!
