I personally have been a fan of Acer monitors. I have used them for years with not a single problem. If I got a new one I would love a 24"size. I have seen some great prices at buy. Com which is where I bought my current acer, super fast shipping, and you can often google for buy.com coupons or codes and get extra off.

Have you tried any of the tricks and tips for your white pixels? Try googling for some you may be able to unstick some. The massage method I have heard can work.

At that size, you might also look at a flat screen tv. My teenage son bought a 24" and has hooked up my old 12 year old Dell computer, his game systems and can watch TV in his room.

I have 2 Dell monitors- a 5 yr old 19" 4:3 and a 4 yr old 20" 16:9. Not only have I not had any trouble with them, I've never had to change any of the default settings. I have both of them connected to a UPS so they always get clean power in addition to being protected from power problems. YMMV.

I have had an Acer 22" since 2009 and haven't had a moments problem with it. Paid less than $200 for it at Office Depot.

I have a Samsung 22 inch and 2 Acer 19 inch. Very happy with all of them.

I used to like Viewsonic but about 3 years ago my daughter had troubles with hers which was still under warranty. Turned out the problem with the monitor was a mere trifle compared to the problems dealing with the warranty. Twice she was sent remanufactured monitors that did not work. Hopefully they have smartened up their act.

What you didn't mention is what you're looking to spend. You can spend under $200 to well over $2,000.

I have a Samsung 22in that is about 7 years old and never gets turned off. Works beautifully.

Probably not much help as technology changes and manufacturers have their problems with new equipment.

After many hours of research including the new IP technology and the old TN technology, I decided since I was updating, I would go with a fairly reasonably priced IP monitor. I just placed an order for the Dell UltraSharp U2412M; the waiting is going to be the hard part.

I did try googling about white pixels and very little info came back. I will try it again though, because I would plan to get the malware off the old computer and want to retain it as a backup along with the old monitor.

Next I have to decide on a new router. I don't know what happened to my fairly new Netgear WNDR3400, but it won't work with the new computer. All the lights flash, but there is no connection. I am thinking about the Netgear WNDR 3700. Any thoughts regardung a new router?

Regardless, I am hoping all of this new equipment will do well for me for at least 10 years. Every time I have had to update, my old computer has been about 10 years old.

What about your old router won't work with your new computer? Are you use a wired or wireless connection?

The connection of the router is wired. The yellow ethernet wire from the cable box to the computer, and the blue wire from the cable box to the router. All of the router lights come on as they are supposed to; however, that is all that happens. I cannot even connect to http://192.168.0.1. Before my old computer got the malware, the firmware for the router had been automatically updated and when I pushed the factory reset button as advised, the router started acting crazy, then the malware attacked the computer. Don't know if malware attacks routers, but I am now afraid to try it again after the first attempt with the new computer failed. I hope this makes sense.

Agree the hook up you posted is not correct. One cable from modem/cable box directly to the router in, then the second cable from the router out to the computer in.
I doubt the malware did anything to the router, I would not spend money on a new router yet.

Malware doesn't attack routers.

You have it wired wrong. Cable/DSL Modem --> Router --> Computer(s).

In my post above, I listed the connections incorrectly. What I meant to say was that the cable modem was connected to the router via the yellow cable and the other connection was from the router to the computer.

I decided to listen to ravencajun and not give up on the router, so connected it again, and again and again. Finally last night I just unplugged turned off everything in the correct sequence. This morning, I hooked back and turned on all in the correct sequence and waiting period.

Logged into 192.168.1.1 and set up and now I am connected to the internet via the router.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It saved me money which is a very good thing.

Now I am going into the bedroom to see if the laptop will detect and connect.

Laptops connects to internet, too. I am so happy.
