Comments (7)I have an acer 19" that I got from buy.com for a very good price, I just saw a 20" acer for $179. You want to make sure it has the proper connections for the type of monitor your pc can take, analog or digital or both. So if your pc takes only analog for example be sure you get a monitor that also has analog as an option. Some have both. One of the reasons I like Acer was it has a 3 yr warranty. Some monitors have speakers in them some don't, mine does not but I have a speaker setup on the desk so I did not need monitor speakers. Some have a built in usb hub which is a nice added bonus. Buy.com does have a couple of the Acers 20" listed at $189. I would go with a name brand. Most of the name brands will pretty much have close to the same specs. Be sure if you buy it from one of the online stores to search google for codes or coupons, I can usually always find a few for buy.com especially for new customers....See MoreNew Monitor

That one does have the built in speakers, mine does not but I use stand alone speakers anyway. In the 19" monitors yes you can still find the non widescreen models but I have not seen any in the larger size monitors which are non widescreen. If you have not set up and used a buy.com account before there are some codes available that will save you some money on that purchase for first time buyer. I use buy.com quite often. first time Buy.com customers only don't worry about expiration dates they are always available just google buy.com promo codes and you can find them....See MoreMonitor screen wants to go black!
Comments (4)Shaddy, if you can get a faster computer and have the tech put XP on it, I think you'd be very happy. Since I don't have or intend to go to Vista anytime soon, I can't say anything about that. I find XP to be so much more stable than Windows 98 was, and all my old programs that I used with 98 work on XP. If your computer activities are just those things you mention, then XP is fine. I doubt it would cost you any more to have XP than to have 98, and since MS no longer supports 98 with security updates, I would NEVER buy a new machine with 98 on it. As far as the monitor, I have no idea what the problem is, but you would definitely enjoy a nice large LCD monitor, and it would be light weight and not take up all that space that a CRT does (I'm assuming a monitor circa 1999 is a CRT)....See Morewizardnm
