Pop-up ad removed ! ! !

Owbist, you were right with the link 'seemingly the cure.' After reading what the person posted, it was exactly what I had. My antivirus must of removed just the virus and left the pop-up behind.

I download the programs they said to and followed their how to instructions. The instructions had a few extra steps that didn't show up, but with common sense I figured out how to get to the next step with no problems.

The only problem was the last step of going to the online scan and using it. My antivirus kept finding a worm attached with the download of their controls. I noticed that the pop-up down in the tray was gone and didn't see it, so I didn't do that step.

Glad we were able to help Archie, nice work getting it cleaned off.

Thank you Randy. I suspect all who offer assistance to those in trouble get as much satisfaction as I do when someone reports back that the problem has been solved.

Probably 30 years ago I took a basic electricity course taught by an electrical engineer. One of the class asked him why he wasted his time teaching us as it was obvious it was not the money. He replied that he got as much satisfaction as we did we did. Because he worked in a narrow field and was afraid of getting rusty in areas outside his job. The class asked questions and he needed to have the answers. I feel that way about helping with computers, it keeps me on my toes and as I age I find my memory is not as good as it once was.

Unless you are signed in, there is an annoying popup for every single thread that you click. I have a popup blocker and it doesn't help. To add to the frustration, Houzz has now added a further ad after the opening post (Search for professionals near you). I find myself on here less and less...and there are a lot of regulars that have left, I don't blame them. There isn't even a feedback forum so members can voice their opinions about this spam being crammed down our throats.

I am so used to IE. Any solutions for it? I know ads are needed and I don't mind them. And before pop-ups were small, but now I have this Sherwin-Williams every time, and it's huge :) First page ad always rolls out unexpectedly, so instead of clicking on Daylilies I usually go to other forums first :)) and then have to come back, wait for the ad to shrink, then go to Daylily, click on all Xs to close ads, after reading every post, after previewing answer, etc. Fun..

I am not getting any pop up ads at all..... Maybe you need to turn a pop-up blocker on your browser? Do you use IE or Netscape or another browser? All have the option of blocking pop-ups. Please find a way to eliminate the pop-ups, we don't want you to leave because of them. Take a look at the COmputer Help Forum, there are lots of possible solutions and if you don't see one that fits your particular set-up the folks there are really smart and happy to help! Yes it seems to be free according to the Majorgeeks download site. Perhaps Lavasoft have been badly stung by so many removing AdAware for the newer programs which appear more efficient. In their business you need to be among the leaders, second best does not cut it. The Lavasoft site is offering three versions though including the free one.
