Terry, I looked around in bios - entered several places but never found "Wake on Lan..." It's a little scary in there! :) RC, I checked for scheduled tasks and found nothing listed that named any software on my computer. I wasn't that concerned about Vista waking up as I was that someone had broken through my security. It doesn't sound like anyone thinks that has happened, so I'm greatly relieved. Thank you. Zep, my computer automatically goes to sleep if I don't do it manually. I never know the best procedure to follow - shut the pc down or keep it on all the time! Thanks, everyone. They didn't leave an instruction guide for me it but it looks like the manual is on one of the CD's, the 3 CD's are as follows: Wireless LAN USB Adapter IEEE 802.11g Driver & Utility User's manual Rev 1.10 Wireless LAN Broadband Router IEEE 802.11g Users Manual Rev 1.00 Wireless Lan CardBus/PCI Adaptor IEEE 802.11g Driver & Utility Users Manual Rev 1.10 There's also a short lead about 2" long with a male USB type fitting on one end and a female on the other. Plus some sort of card approx 2" x 4" It says on the front: Wireless 11g 54 Mbps and on the back: 802.11g Wireless LAN PC card IEEE 802.11g Compliant DSSS at 2.4 GHz ISM band Thank you so very much in advance.

I will try to clarify the problem. My computer is the one wired to the internet through the cable modem.I refer to this computer as No.1 computer. Wireless computers are two Laptops, both belong to daughter. Laptop 1 is HP and has wireless capability, little Acer laptop2 is daughter's also but her 9 year old son has use of it. Laptop 2 has wireless capability. The computer in bedroom is a desktop2 that is the one not connecting. There was a network cable run through the attic and dropped down to the bedroom and connects to the PC in bedroom.Previously it was connecting via the router that died earlier in the week. My husband and oldest son use the Desktop2 in bedroom.

if it is not a wireless router you can not use it in another room unless you some how run a cable that connects from the router to the other room to hook the pc to. If it is a wireless router and the pc you are talking about has in a wifi card you should be able to use it in any room of the house and it should find and connect to the wireless network once you enter your network password. But since you mention the connection for 4 computers it sounds like you are not using any type of wireless. Let us know what exactly you have so we can give better info.
