How to disable McAfees?

My son has been unable to get on an online game site for a couple months now. He thinks and has been told that something on his computer is blocking the site. We think it's McAfees but he's unable to uninstall it. It keeps telling him that he's not authorized to uninstall it. Can anyone help?

Why would you want to take the risk of uninstalling your Antivirus or Firewall software (I'm assuming this is what you mean when you write "McAfees") so you can get to a game site? With no protection, your computer will be compromised within a day. Usually there's a way with most protective software to enter a site as a safe site so it doesn't prevent access. You can go online with McAfee and have a free, realtime chat session with a technician. Try that first before you start disabling your computer.

One other thought. Have you tried to access this site from another computer to confirm that it is still an active site?

Kudzu, my son has friends from school who play still. He's talked to the website people and McAfees, no one seems to know how to fix it. McAfees and others gave advice, which he tried, but it didn't work.

Yes, McAfee is an incoming and outgoing firewall, although you can change a setting so that you're not notified if a program attempts to access the Internet (but that's not advised). Basically, the built-in Windows firewall is better than nothing at all, but not by much. If you want real protection, get the McAfee, especially since your ISP offers it at no cost to you. Until you get the McAfee installed, you should at least be using the Windows firewall. But as soon as you install McAfee, you should disable the Windows firewall.

albert- If your wife used Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, it has removed most, but not all, of McAfee. (If she did something else, like only deleted the shortcut for McAfee, it's still there). You can go to the link posted above for the McAfee Uninstaller, download it, and run it to remove everything. I believe it works even if you have already done a partial removal, but not sure. At any rate it won't screw anything up to try it. Also, I've never seen McAfee automatically bill for a subsciption renewal without your consent. I suspect one of you clicked on a button somewhere - like in an email to you from McAfee, or in an update notice as the program approached the anniversary date - and that you agreed to renew your subscription, and probably had to enter your credit card info for the subscription. Lastly, reassure me that you are running some other kind of antivirus software on your computer.

That was the first anti virus I used, I was new to computers so I can't judge how well it worked. It was very hard to update and expensive. When I started posting in here I found out about free software and used AVG, then Avast until they became a problem. They both did their job well, just had to many false positives and conflicts with other software. Now I use MS Security Essentials and have not had any problems with it like I did the others.
