Another Win7 IE question

Hmmmm, must have inadvertently gave permission to something and now, when I open IE, a box pops up asking if I want to give Administrative permission. There must have been a change request in making changes to IE. Its apparently a User Account thing, but I was there and couldnt find anything to remove this setting for opening IE

Call off the hounds, I believe I found the answer and disabled UAC by going to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts and Family Safety>User Account>Change UAC settings. Move slider all the way to the bottom> Press OK. It will ask you to restart the computer, do it. Controls are gone. It may not be ideal for all, but it was what I wanted

Just so you know...I, too, find the UAC annoying for repeatedly asking permission. However, it has also saved me a couple of times from having rogue software installed without my knowledge when I was at a web site that was less-than-legit. I do a lot of web searches and more than once I've clicked on a link from a Google search that looked useful, and ended up at a site that has bad intentions. Bottomline: I have chosen to leave the UAC on.

No you are doing nothing wrong Gene. I read an article somewhere that MS had deliberately set it that way, crazy in my mind. I seem to have dragged mine out enough times that it has quit fighting with me and I had not realised it till you posted the question. When I visit others I see they leave it that way, seems pointless to have a 22 inch monitor to view 16 inch screens. The link below has some tremendous tutorials and wallpaper if you are interested. Jane you are correct W7 is a stand alone, but the foundation is Vista architecture. If someone wishes to avoid Vista that is their choice. I do anticipate anyone planning to upgrade a current XP system to Win7 to have some concerns. At this time unless dictated by some outside need I wouldn't replace XP with Vista either. However, it is my personal opinion that with the release of W7 users should be preparing to let XP ride off into the sunset. Once you get too far behind knowledge and experience wise its tough to catch up. I speak from experience as I loved Win98 and hung on to it for as long as I could personally. I obtained my hands on experience, though limited by the IT people, with Win 2000 and XP at work. By doing so I lost a lot of learning time which could not be made up by reading. DA

"Everytime I start Windows Explorer 8 the web page displayed does not open on the full screen,I have to keep dragging down the bottom of the frame to the taskbar. IF the laptop is that new I would contact the manufacturer first, they may know of a known bug and have an update to fix it. If not then I would talk to them about a replacement or having someone take a look at it. A brand new laptop should not be giving you that type of freeze up issue where you have to do a hard shutdown. in most cases the jumping cursor is a very sensitive touch pad that is being triggered by your hand movements. Have you tried turning off the touch pad while typing as a test to see if you still have the problem. Also just to test try using an external mouse with the touch pad turned off. These tests will determine if that is the problem or if something else is causing it. Must do those to eliminate possibilities. Have you tried turning off the power saver features and turning off hibernate to see if that has any effect on the freezing up? if not do try that. Also on 7 down at the bottom in the tray you should see a small flag it may be hidden in the hidden icons, click that it tell you if there are any known problems on your unit and will offer to try to fix them.

If others, particularly adventurous young people, are on the system I always recommend the "Administrator" leave it on. The beep and the extra click are a whole lot easier to tolerate than to fix a problem, perhaps big.

True, when right clicking on the IE icon and looking into Properties, I must have inadvertently clicked on the Administrator rights instead of properties. Now, when I want to browse and choose the IE icon, it was asking for permission. If I find a way to take away those rights in IE, then I may un-cancel(lol) the UAC
